Guest Post: Mature Content by Santino Hassell and Megan Erickson

Today I am so pleased to welcome Santino Hassell and Megan Erickson to Joyfully Jay. Santino and Megan have come to talk to us about their latest release, Mature Content (Cyberlove #4).  Please join me in giving them a big welcome!

Megtino YouTube Channel

MATURE CONTENT features two YouTubers who run popular channels where they post videos daily. Beau and Zane talk about everything from stereotypes they encounter, casual days in their lives, and sexual positions. Their candid nature, and how fun it was to think of new videos, got us to thinking–if MegTino had a YouTube channel, what would we make videos about? Here are five video ideas we would totally do if we had our own channel.

1 – Outtakes

Santino: I think I would add a clip of my favorite most recent conversation when we were joking about recreating a picture of Batman and Robin drinking Starbucks on our upcoming trip, but only said “I have an idea.” Then say “About… recreation.” And her first thought was to think I meant recreational marijuana lmao.

Megan: We mostly converse on Gchat and as anyone knows, there’s autocorrect and straight up misunderstandings. I told him he needed to go to his PO. I mean PO Box, but he messaged me back and said, “I need to go to my parole officers?” I said, “No, your PO Box! Do you have a parole officer??” (For the record, he does not have a parole officer, haha).

And then there was the time he messaged me and said “I’m really into this mounted idea.” And I was so confused. Mounted? Who’s mounting who? And that turned into the, uh, infamous mounted dildo scene in Strong Signal.

2 – Co-writing sex scenes

Megan: We could talk about all the research we had to do, from Twitch channels (Summit1G and Sodapoppin) for Strong Signal to Grindr for Fast Connection. I had an actual Grindr lesson, haha. I never thought I’d have to discuss in all seriousness the technicalities of that app.

Santino: Yeah, we could probably do an entire video on writing Strong Signal. LOL With screencaps of my Grindr dashboard which I showed her for reference, and then us trying to figure out whether Kai would logistically be able to give himself, uh, oral… pleasure.

3 – Favorite reads

Megan: I’d probably talk about the first book that made me realize how much I love romance and that was The Thorn Birds. It’s NOT a romance, but I shipped Meggie and Ralph so hard. I’m still heartbroken over that book!

Santino: Ooh, I’d probably FIRST talk about the book I just read from Piper Vaughn and Avon Gale. It’s about a twenty-something skateboarding graffiti artist, and the forty-year-old tattoo artist he falls for. There is some hot hot sex in this book. Then, I’d talk about the Bend or Break series by Amy Jo Cousins, which is one of the first series that made me sit up and think “I really want to have a writing voice as strong as hers”.

4 – Megtino’s first signing

Santino: If we really had a YouTube channel, I’d like to think we would have take some footage from that signing. Especially we walked into the after party wearing giant onesies. Hers said “Meg” on the back, and mine said “Tino.” They were so baggy. Christopher Rice said we looked like the Beastie Boys. We’d totally have a clip of us walking in (with everyone else wearing real costumes) while the Beasties play in the background.

Megan: Haha, could be our intro! I wonder if Beastie Boys would let us use their music… But yeah, we would totally vlog about our signings, the fun readers we meet, and how quickly we scarf down food when it’s all over. I would also show you how quickly he falls asleep after eating, which is under thirty seconds.

5 – Favorite Cyberlove scenes

Santino: There are so many that I’d love for us to like.. Be able to highlight some in several clips. Maybe of us reading parts out loud? In Strong Signal, my favorite scene is Garrett raging over this jerk who just killed him on a video game then realizing the jerk is this gorgeous streamer. Fast Connection… probably when Dominic comes over and Luke is like “turn around and put your hands on the counter. Palms down.” Luke is so hot. Hard Wired, I’d have to say… the first time Jesse and Ian chat after the famous FallenCon blowup, when Jesse calls him out on acting fake. And there are so many in Mature Content, but I really love the Touch My Body scene.

Megan: Can I just say all of these are my favorite too? I also love the first time Luke and Dom messaged on Grindr. I laughed until I cried writing that. Also their scene where Dom shows up in his Halloween costume and Luke gets possessive. We’d probably read clips and then talk about what it was like “behind the scenes” writing those.

MatureContent-fMy life plan is to be brutally honest all the way to the bank. Don’t believe me? I run a popular YouTube channel called TrashyZane, and my claim to fame is oversharing about every aspect of my personal life. Sometimes while tipsy. Not everyone loves my style, but I have a long history of icing out people who can’t handle me. I have no time for judgmental foolishness.

Except, apparently, when it comes to Beau Starr. His channel is the polar opposite of mine, and so is he. Wholesome, inspirational, and clean-cut. Everything about him should turn me off, but when we hook up following a confrontation at a convention, my world flips upside down. Not only does Beau Starr turn me on, he uses the exact combination of dirty talk and roughness needed to turn me out.

But we still hate each other. I think.

Santino Hassell was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed, school cutting grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into an unlikely romance author.

Santino writes queer romance that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.

Megan Erickson is a USA Today bestselling author of romance that sizzles. Her books have a touch of nerd, a dash of humor, and always have a happily ever after. A former journalist, she switched to fiction when she decided she likes writing her own endings better.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her very own nerdy husband and two kids. Although rather fun-sized, she’s been told she has a full-sized personality. When Megan isn’t writing, she’s either lounging with her two cats named after John Hughes characters or… thinking about writing.

  1. Hi, Mature Content is at the top of my TBR list! Santino, what’s the title of that book by Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn? That sounds intriguing as well.

    • Michelle says:

Hi Eliza-I’ll step in and let you know the name of the book you’re interested in is Permanent Ink. It’s currently up for preorder at Riptide for an August release.

  2. Thank you autocorrect for the mounting scene! Lol I reread First and First so many times for that scene!

  3. Strong Signal*

  4. (Tbh I reread both books a lot 😉

  5. Welcome, Megtino, and thanks for a fun interview! I’ve read with pleasure the first three Cyberlove books and am looking forward to reading Mature Content. I’d certainly watch your channel for the book recommendations; I (cough, cough) read The Thorn Birds when it first came out and, more recently, have enjoyed the Bend or Break series.
