Today I am so pleased to welcome C.S. Poe to Joyfully Jay. C.S. has come as part of the Coastal Magic Blog Tour to talk to us about her latest release, Southernmost Murder. She has also brought along a backlist book to give away. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Hello, everyone! I’m C.S. Poe and I’m here to tell you that I’ll be at Coastal Magic Convention this February 22 – 25th. Coastal Magic is a get together in Daytona Beach, Florida, with an emphasis on urban fantasy, paranormal, and romance books! Even though most of my books are mysteries with a romantic subplot, I was still lucky enough to be invited to attend as a Featured Author.

coastal magic badgeI was thinking about what to write for Joyfully Jay—and after an amusing flight to Pennsylvania today (that’d be Wednesday, when I wrote this), I decided it’d be more fun to talk about airports…. Since I’ll be flying to Daytona Beach… (A vague connection, I know, but roll with it.)

I was fifty minutes late leaving my house in Key West, which ended up being okay because the plane was late too. And hey— didn’t forget my phone this time!

I was leaving security when I overheard that the officers had confiscated a weapon from a guy named Huckleberry Finn. Seriously.

An announcement was made to deliver all pink-tag carry-ons to the front desk. While I was in the bathroom. Luckily the bag just made it into cargo.

Then I did the board the plane, exit the plane, board the plane dance when it was broken— jk— no wait— yeah we’re sure, get on. I’m easygoing, it wasn’t a concern. Although it did put me in Atlanta with ten minutes to get from gate E36 to B36 for a connecting flight.

Think Home Alone. That mad dash through the airport. Except the run took me twelve minutes, so I ended up waving goodbye to my plane as it pulled away from the gate.

I had my newest book release on Tuesday—Southernmost Murder. It’s a really fun murder mystery with a narcoleptic historian and his FBI agent boyfriend. And the Pennsylvania flight-jumping fiasco made me wonder about how some of my characters would do in airports….

Jun Tanaka, the hot FBI agent and all around stellar boyfriend, would be just fine. He works for the Organized Crime Team, and has had to make more than one trip to China and Japan on business. Aubrey Grant, our hyperactive, bossy little historian— I think he’d be okay. He doesn’t really like traveling alone, what with his narcolepsy, but he’s managed this far in life.

It’s mostly Sebastian Snow, from the Snow & Winter series, that makes me laugh. He a homebody. Never left New York for anything further than Jersey. He doesn’t have a driver’s license, doesn’t even like taking the subway from one borough to another. He’s never been on a plane.

Might be a story to tell there….

Anyway, do you have any crazy airport stories? If you share a story in the comments, one random winner will be chosen to receive an ebook of their choice from my backlist! I hope to see you at Coastal Magic!

Blurb

Southernmost MurderAubrey Grant lives in the tropical paradise of Old Town, Key West, has a cute cottage, a sweet moped, and a great job managing the historical property of a former sea captain. With his soon-to-be-boyfriend, hotshot FBI agent Jun Tanaka, visiting for a little R&R, not even Aubrey’s narcolepsy can put a damper on their vacation plans.

But a skeleton in a closet of the Smith Family Historical Home throws a wrench into the works. Despite Aubrey and Jun’s attempts to enjoy some time together, the skeleton’s identity drags them into a mystery with origins over a century in the past. They uncover a tale of long-lost treasure, the pirate king it belonged to, and a modern-day murderer who will stop at nothing to find the hidden riches. If a killer on the loose isn’t enough to keep Aubrey out of the mess, it seems even the restless spirit of Captain Smith is warning him away.

The unlikely partnership of a special agent and historian may be exactly what it takes to crack this mystery wide-open and finally put an old Key West tragedy to rest. But while Aubrey tracks down the X that marks the spot, one wrong move could be his last.
