Hi everyone! Today I am very excited to welcome author Taylor V. Donovan to the blog. Taylor just published the great new novel Six Degrees of Lust, which I reviewed here yesterday. She is here today to talk to us more about the book and her writing. She also brought with her a copy of the book to give away to one lucky commenter!
Welcome Taylor!
Thank you. I’m happy to be here J
First, let me congratulate you on your new release. This is your first full-length novel, is that right? Can you give us some background on the story and how it developed?
Thanks! Six Degrees of Lust is my first full-length novel. It is also the first thing I ever wrote. The original idea was to have a psychotic zealot obsessed with saving this particular gay man, then it was a matter of deciding who was he going to hurt, who was going to get affected and who was going to ultimately catch him.
There is a lot of detail in the story about the police investigation and the religious zealotry of the killer. What kind of research did you need to do for this story?
Extensive, I’ll tell you that. First I read about a few notorious serial killers, then moved on to psychological profiling and crime scene investigations. I also had to get familiar with certain passages of the Bible and FBI procedures. Interesting stuff, all of it. J
Six Degrees of Lust ends with a cliff hanger and I know you are working on more books in the series. Can you give us any more details on what to expect from the series? When can we look for the next installment? Can you spill any details from the next book?
By Degrees is a serial, and there are five books outlined. The second installment is Six Degrees of Separation, and it should be out at some point in the spring. As far as details, I can tell you that it focuses on catching the killer and Sam and Mac’s storyline comes to a conclusion by the end of this book.
Will any of the supporting characters get their own books? Or will they continue to develop within Sam and Mac’s story? (I am dying for more of Logan! Mmmm, piercings and tattoos!)
After the second installment we will see Sam and Mac’s story continue to develop within other storylines. You’ll be happy to learn that the third installment is all Logan’s. [Hurray!] He’s the main character of that one. J
When I read the description of Nick’s friend Sasha, I couldn’t help but think of the gorgeous gender-bending Andrej Pejic. Was Pejic the inspiration for this character?
Absolutely. Sasha was inspired by Andrej Pejic’s attitude and looks.
Aside from this series, are there any other projects you are working on that you can tell us about?
Aside from giving the final touches to Six Degrees of Separation, I have two other projects I’m working on and are nearly completed. There’s Hearsay, which I’d say is a rather romantic story about the risks some people will take in the name of love. Disasterology 101 is the story of a divorced construction worker who is only now coming to terms with his sexuality and the germaphobe foreigner with obsessive compulsive disorder that steals his heart.
If readers want to learn more about you or your books, where can they find you?

>Wonderful interview! Can't wait to read this one!
>I am really looking forward to this series. I like books with lot's of different characters that we get to revisit in other installments. Sounds like you have some very interesting characters, too.
As a reader, I don't always realize all the research it takes to write a book. That makes me appreciate your writing even more. I don't have a problem that this book ends in a cliffhanger, either, since we won't have to wait very long until the next one is out.
Congratulations and continued success!
P.S.
Heatstroke was a great story, too.

@ Lisa Glad to hear you enjoyed Heatstroke 🙂 If you like multiple characters you're in for a treat with By Degrees. Although each book focuses on a particular couple reality is this is an ensemble series, so plenty for you to read. 🙂
@diannakay Thank you. Hope you enjoy it when you read it. 🙂
@Juliana I outlined the entire series before I started writing the first book. It has several developing and ongoing story lines and having a clear timeline was absolutely necessary. 🙂
@Kit Glad I was able to share some information about the series. 🙂
@Sarah Thank you and good luck! 🙂
@icrad You're in. 🙂
