Today I am very excited to welcome author Poppy Dennison back to Joyfully Jay.ย Poppy is here to talk to us more about her newest book, Body Magic, the second book in her Triad ย series (and which I reviewed here earlier today). ย She also brought a copy to give away so be sure to check out details below. ย Please join me in giving her a big welcome.ย
Hi Poppy, thanks so much for stopping back by the blog today!
Thanks so much for having me! I love your blog and the incredible reviews you guys doโฆalthough my bank account doesnโt like all the book recs I pick up from you! ๐ [Aw, thanks!]
Your latest book, Body Magic, has just been released by Dreamspinner Press.ย Can you tell us a little bit about it?
Iโd love to! Body Magic picks up where Mind Magic left off and continues the story of Simon and Gray. This book also focuses on Grayโs best friend Cade and Rocky Harris, the security specialist introduced in the first book.
Rocky has a secretโand Cade wants to know what it is.ย The pack is still trying to figure out how and why they were attacked by the demon, and coming to terms with the rule-breaking that Simon and Gray did when they mated.
Rocky and Cade have to work together to improve the packโs security, and in the process, they struggle to accept that itโs okay to be different.
Body Magic is the second book in your Triad series, focusing on three types of magic found in different magical beings.ย Can you explain more about how these types of magic work and where they are found?
The idea behind the Triad of magic is that there are three types of magic in the world: Mind Magic, Body Magic, and Soul Magic.ย Mind Magic is the magic of the mages. Simon, an apprentice, is learning about his abilities and what it really means to be a mage in the first book. Body Magic is the magic of the shiftersโthe ability to shift your bodies form. The third type of magic, Soul Magic, is the magic of vampires, demons, and โothers.โ ย Each magic brings its own special abilities and weaknesses.
We meet Rocky and Cade, the heroes of this story, briefly in the first book, Mind Magic.ย Cade is a member of the High Moon pack and one of the men responsible for the loss of the cubs in that story.ย And Rocky is from another pack, brought in to help with security.ย How will their experiences in the first story shape their relationship in this book?
In Mind Magic, Cade was the guard on duty when the cubs were kidnapped by a demon. Heโs always been the strong one, the tough guy, and he feels his failure strongly. When Gray brings in Rocky to help with security, Cade feels like heโs let his best friend down, not been strong enough to help Gray keep the pack safe.
Rocky, on the other hand, has his own agenda which wasnโt revealed in the first book.ย What heโs learned about mages and demons shapes the course of his character in this story and heโs forced to make some difficultโand life changingโdecisions.
In additionย to the romance, the series follows the threats to the wolves and the mystery of who is behind the danger.ย For folks who are just jumping into Body Magic without having read the first book, what do they need to know about these threats? [Note: Poppy’s answer has a spoiler so skip the tagged part if you don’t want to know what happened in the first book]
The threat to the wolves and their magic is the arc that covers all three books in this trilogy. Who and why are the questions that Simon and Gray are seeking to answer.
They thought the threat died with Thomas, Simonโs mage master, but the hits just keep on coming.ย
ย In this book, the Were Council gets involved and they bring their knowledge into the mix.
I think the most important thing for new readers to know from the first book is that the types of magic arenโt meant to coexist. Simon, as a mage, shouldnโt have anything to do with the body magic of the shifters. His mating to Gray raises the stakes for them all.
The final book in the series will focus on the third type of magic, soul magic.ย Can you give us any hints about the final story?ย Who will be the main characters?ย And when you expect it to come out?
The final book in the trilogy is slated for release in early 2013. I can tell you that (as most readers have *ahem* demanded) the third book is Cormacโs story and will wrap up the mystery. Cormac has a lot of secretsโฆ [Yeah! ย I love Cormac!]
Other than these books, is there anything else you are working on that you would like to tell us about?
I have a couple novellas in the works, but no release dates at this time. Iโm also working on a spin-off novel to the Triad series called Wild Magic.ย Iโm in the development stage for a new urban fantasy series that Iโm really excited about and hope to release next summer.
Other than that, readers can usually find me haunting the halls of Boxer Falls, the Gaytime Drama I co-produce with Damon Suede and Ellis Carrington. Boxer Falls is a weekly serial soap opera that many of the m/m genreโs favorite authors have taken part of. You can find out more about Boxer Falls at www.BoxerFalls.com.
If readers want to learn more about you or you work, where can they find you?
Iโm all over the place. ๐

Bio
A sassy southern lady, Poppy Dennison developed an obsession with things that go bump in the night in her early years after a barn door flew off its hinges and nearly squashed her. Convinced it was a ghost trying to get her attention, she started looking for other strange and mysterious happenings around her. Not satisfied with what she found, Poppy has traveled to Greece, Malaysia and England to find inspiration for the burly bears and silver foxes that melt her butter. Her love of paranormal continues to flourish nearly thirty years later, and she writes steamy love stories about the very things that used to keep her up all night. If her childhood ghost is lucky, maybe one day sheโll give him his own happily ever after.
Body Magic Blurb
A pack is only as strong as its weakest member. Rocky Harris knows how the system works. Heโs been on the bottom rung his whole life. But when his alpha consigns him to the High Moon Pack to help them improve security, he finds his beliefs not just challenged but outright assaulted.
Cade Montgomeryโs confidence took a hit when the packโs cubs were kidnapped on his watch. Heโs prepared to do anything to protect his family, even if it means working with Rocky. Maybe Cade doesnโt trust Rocky, but with the turmoil surrounding pack Alpha Grayโs unpopular decision to break tradition and mate with a mage named Simon, Cade knows more threats are coming.
Then someone declares war on shifters and puts the entire pack in danger. Cade and Rocky will need each otherโs strengths to survive the impending battleโand the power of their growing attraction.
