Brent Kelley only expected to drop off his shoebox full of receipts to his new accountant. He didn’t expect to meet a beautiful, young, glasses-wearing geek dressed in a TARDIS-colored shirt, much less be attracted to him.  Always able to hold a conversation, Brent finds himself stumbling over his words when in the presence of the beautiful accountant, Logan Willis. Unable to get the man out of his head, Brent calls Logan under the guise of learning about Doctor Who. That call leads to their first date.

Brent is an electrician and ex-jock who hangs out with his friends and has a string of one-night stands. Logan is in no way Brent’s type. Logan is lean, geeky, pretty, and extremely smart. Yet Brent cannot stop thinking about him. The more time they spend together and the more they get to know one another just serves to prove to Brent that love has nothing to do with a type.

Taxes and TARDIS is an adorable, heart-warming tale of opposites attract. I have to admit that this author had me at TARDIS. My inner geek was so intrigued by the title I didn’t even bother with reading the blurb. Luckily, I was not disappointed.

Brent is a self-confident, self-assured character, but he has his moments. The stumbling over words and accidental sexual innuendos just showed that even the most confident man can be nervous when attracted to the unknown.

“Oh,” he said, alarmed. “We can sit on the sofa…”

Oh, shit. “No, no,” I quickly amended. “It’s fine. Just my legs don’t fold up around my ears as easy as yours.” He ducked his head, and a pink hue tinted his cheeks as I replayed my words in my head. “Oh, um… I didn’t mean… Oh, God,”

I loved the nervousness and flirting in the beginning of Brent and Logan’s relationship. There are very few times that I make an insta-love exception, and this story is one of them. And I don’t know if I would even categorize this as instant love. Although the story spans over two weeks, a lot happens with Brent and Logan. They spend a lot of time together getting to know each other, sharing secrets and difficult pasts. I appreciated that the characters got to know one another not just intimately, but also personally and intellectually.

The storyline is light and sweet with a small conflict. Add in the Doctor Who and Torchwood references and I was in geek heaven. The geek and the jock are always a good combination in my opinion. This story definitely highlighted the differences, but it is also full of hope for the two main characters. I even enjoyed the conflict at the end as it served to make their relationship a little stronger in the end.

I really enjoyed Taxes and TARDIS by N.R. Walker. It is a sweet love story with great characters and wonderful ending. To those who have a thing for geeks, and those who have a little bit (or a lot) of geek in them this is the perfect love story for you. And to those who have a soft spot for the opposites attract trope, I think you’ll enjoy this story as well.

Taxes and TARDIS is part of Silver Publishing’s A Mind is a Sexy Thing collection. I adore this collection. It’s full of lovable geeks and sweet love stories. This isn’t the first book I’ve read in the collection and I doubt it will be the last.
