Nothing like toy shopping for the Christmas season, right? Of course, my online browsing had a different purpose to it this year. In “Submissive Angel,” my story contribution to the O Come All Ye Kinky anthology, my Dominant hero is a vintage toy store owner, and the male submissive he wants to finally make his own is his employee, a young man who came to him from the streets. During the course of the evening, Robert will use hobby horses, Lincoln Logs, Christmas lights and ribbon, as well as paraffin candles, to pleasure and control Ange, and Ange is only too happy to submit.
Having a hard time visualizing some of that? Well, I’m not above offering a few teasers. Robert unscrews the heads of two hobby horses and uses the sticks to form a combination ball clamp and spreader bar for Ange’s thighs. The Lincoln Logs are spacers so poor Ange doesn’t get pinched too cruelly. Robert also wraps him in vintage Christmas lights and uses the paraffin candle wax (not at the same time—what a mess!) to give Ange the pleasure of a mild burn against tender flesh. I’m not going to share how the ribbon is used, because you might enjoy the surprise of that one. Like all good Christmas stories, however, there’s snow, mistletoe, dancing, and the rediscovery of love, because Robert didn’t think he’d open his heart to another again, and Ange is just too irresistible.
Anyhow, back to my main subject. I was looking for more than pervertibles when I went browsing. Robert is a peculiar fellow. In fact, when he’s struggling with whether or not he should make a move on Ange, this is the thought that goes through his head:
“Oh, fuck it. He was a childless, gay, nearly-forty-year-old man who wore a bow tie and suspenders and collected rare toys. All he needed was a cranky little dog to complete the stereotype, but he was allergic. What was holding him rooted to this spot was fear of loss, and Robert knew how irrational that was.”
I wanted readers to experience some of Robert’s regard for toys of the past, and so a few are mentioned in the course of the story. One of the first ones introduced is a jockey/horse balance toy, where a counterweight is used to rock a wooden horse back and forth on a table top so he looks as if he and his rider are racing. Also, at one point, Ange and an elderly customer are on the floor, racing ”cars of the future,” friction cars that shoot out real sparks and roar when they fly across the floor…
These toys took me back to simpler times, when toys couldn’t rely on batteries or computer chips to hold attention. Of course, as I wandered through the online collectible category, I found a toy that both charmed and titillated. I’ve included a picture of it in this post (you were wondering when I’d get to that, right?). This is a cast iron toy (a serious collectible, being auctioned for well over four figures), and depicts a chimney sweep and a baker, but how can you miss the BDSM look here? Okay, maybe I’m a little too immersed in this genre, but doesn’t that sweep look like a flogger? Even the demeanor of the two fits. The chimney sweep looks stern and forbidding all in black, while the baker is like a gentle and jovial sub!
I hope you’ll put O Come All Ye Kinky underneath your tree, because like this kind of toy, the stories are designed to charm and titillate…as well as engage your heart. Read them with a loved one and then make use of your own Christmas “toys”!
Here’s the blurb for my story, “Submissive Angel:”
After Robert found Ange bleeding in an alley, he employed the man in his vintage toy store as an act of charity. However, this Christmas, the eccentric young dancer will offer his thanks—and himself—to teach a brokenhearted Master how to open his heart to love again.
And here’s what you can expect to find in the anthology as a whole:
Christmas is a time of love and joy, and the New Year is a time of renewal. But they are also times of stress and strife, family drama, pressure and heartache—a potent mix of high expectations and conflicted emotions. Add in power exchange relationships, kinky gift swaps, and unconventional love in a sometimes unforgiving world, and you have a formula for a sizzling anthology of stories that tug at your heart.
From Ava March’s forbidden Regency love between men, to Katie Porter’s scorching hot contemporary tale of two women discovering holiday happiness, everyone will find a favorite here. Pervertible toys abound: Lambda Literary Award finalist L.A. Witt’s candy cane, Jane Davitt’s wrapping paper and tape, and Alexa Snow’s Christmas candles all please and delight. Newcomer Elyan Smith and fan favorite Kim Dare both celebrate New Year’s Eve with romantic flair and kinky fireworks, while bestselling author Joey W. Hill’s poignant story of discovery and commitment will lead you home
Whatever your desires, we invite you to explore new fantasies and old with these eight kinky tales of holiday happy endings.
20% of all proceeds from O Come All Ye Kinky will be donated to the Domestic Violence Project of the National Leather Association–International. (If you buy the book, digital or print, from Riptide’s website, more money goes to the charity because we’re not paying third-party vendor fees.)
You can find out more about the anthology and all the stories here.

Looking forward to reading this – it’s in my tbr pile; I just need to finish a load of Christmas prep first 🙂

Thanks, JJ, for having me here today! Andrea, hope you like their story, as well as all the other great stories in this anthology. Sarah, I understand. I have a button I wear throughout the holidays that features the Cathy Cartoon character – all her hair is sticking straight out with Christmas balls attached and she’s screaming “STRESS!!” I love the joy and wonder of the Christmas season, however, so I roll with it just like a Christmas ball – a little lopsided, but mostly on track (wink). Good luck in your prep!
So nice having you Joey!
It’s been a pleasure being here!
This sounds like a fun book. Thanks for the post.

Becki, hope you get a chance to enjoy it. And with 20% of the proceeds going to a domestic violence charity, you can do good for others AND indulge yourself (wink).
This post really piqued my interest! I haven’t thought about Lincoln logs in {unintelligible mumble} years, let alone THAT way…
Trix, I had one of my readers say (after she read the story) she was never going to look at her child’s Tinker Toys the same way again! (lol) It’s amazing the places your mind takes you… Thanks for coming to see us today!
It’s true what they say about small packages. Not Robert and Ange *fans self* but the size of the story. So much emotion packed in this short story. The gift Ange gives to Robert is a perfect Christmas story. Robert tried to deny his desires because of his broken heart but slowly Ange showed him he also had the same desire. And it is not just Ange’s gift to Robert but Robert’s gift to Ange. Between Robert grabbing the bat to Ange last dance you show us some real Christmas magic. This is a Holiday journey you don’t want to miss! I do hope we get to see more of Robert and Ange in the future *wink*
Terry, loved your take on the story. I think the best love stories have that kind of give and take between the characters. And the “vibe” I received when writing the story is that Robert and Ange probably have a longer story waiting for them somewhere down the line, where we’ll learn more about Ange’s past, and see what kind of Master that Robert is when he fully reclaims that sense of himself. So glad you loved them both!
Oh yes, I would love a longer story with them! They are so sweet and romantic!
Thanks Jay! I would love to write more about them. I need to figure out how to clone myself, create the 36 hour day, etc…lol. Oh well, it WILL be written – just have to figure out the when!
Just finished the anthology this morning….loved it! I have to say though that I think Robert and Ange were two of the sweetest most memorable characters in the anthology.
Clancy, thank you! That’s what always gets me when people who don’t read erotic romance think that it’s just about the sex. I think women like reading ER because it integrates the emotion with the spice, giving the best of both worlds. If it doesn’t move my heart, it’s not likely to do much for my libido either (wink).
Could not agree more. I got nothing against erotica, but erotic romance is what does it for me because sex without the emotion is lacking.
Yep – before erotic romance came along, a woman had to make do with erotica. I have nothing against the genre, but so much of it was the three D’s – dark, depressing, dysfunctional (shudder). They called it “literary”; I just called it put-away-the-razor-blades-before-reading stories (lol).
I’ve read the story and want more. Robert and Ange are absolutly beautiful together. The caring and healing and total hotness makes a great story.
(Joey, I may never look at Christmas lights the same way again.)
Lol…Moira, believe me, neither will I. I guess it may be a good thing that I have a prelit tree, where the lights are already affixed!
Love Joey’s stuff and have to say this is the story I was eying the most. Can’t wait to read it.

Issa, let me know if it doesn’t live up to your expectations, and I hope the whole book is a wonderful holiday experience!
can’t wait to read this anthology!!!
Oh Jason, this one is totally you! Definitely read it!
CAN NOT WAITto read this one!!
Thank you, Jason and Logan! The stories have such a great variety of characters and situations, but they’re well linked in their themes of holiday spirit. As noted above, hope you both enjoy the ride!
Sounds wonderful!!

Flchen – I was so flattered to be asked – and looking at the line up of the other authors, I knew I’d be in great company! Hope you enjoy the journey with all of them.
I love to read holiday stories at this time of year and these sound cute 🙂
penumbrareads(at)gmail(dot)com
Penumbra, I agree. It’s a lot like eating certain foods associated with particular holidays. They always taste better around that time!
Pervertibles.best new word ever. Thanks for the post and the excerpt. All Robert needs is a dog to complete the stereotype, lol. Well I guess I’m done!
Chuckle – sounds like you and Robert would get along just fine. Isn’t pervertible a great word? I only heard it for the first time when I had to do a byline article about it a couple months ago. It’s weird to have been writing about using household items for sexual purposes for over 30 books, and only just now find out there’s a term for that (laughter).
I always enjoy Joey’s work. Please count me in.
Thank you, chellebee66(at)gmail(dot)com
Thanks, Mimi!! :>
Now I’ve got to read this or I’ll be wondering about tinker toys the rest of my life!
Count me in and thanks for the opportunity.
andreanow1999 at yahoo.com
Lol – don’t know if it changes anything, but what’s actually used in the story is Lincoln Logs. However, since they seem to be cousin and kin to things like Tinkertoys and Legos, I think you might still find it entertaining! :>
I wasn’t able to pull up any information on the Domestic Violence Project of the NLAI. What kind of services do they provide?
catherinelee100 at gmail dot com
Catherine, if you go to the book page on the site, http://riptidepublishing.com/titles/o-come-all-ye-kinky, and scroll down to the bottom, past the blurbs about the stories, it discusses the charity and gives you the link to both the organization and the project. But I mention that to give everyone the high level description; you’re right, the link to the project is broken. The NLA website says they’re making some updates to the website so that’s probably why it won’t pull up. I’ll see if I can find out what’s happening tomorrow and put that info out here under your comment. Thanks for mentioning it!
Sorry guys, the broken link was my fault. WP was being quirky about me not putting the “http” part of the link in so it was going crazy. Should be fixed now, or here it is again: http://www.nla-i.com
Jay, it wasn’t your fault at all, no worries. Catherine is referencing the link to their charity on that same page. That’s the one that’s broken from NLA’s end. I got an update from the publisher this morning that they’ve notified them about it as well, so hopefully we’ll hear something back soon with a fixed link to all the info about this great project!
Catherine, thanks for your patience. The link on the NLAI site is still broken, but now we have a direct link to some more info about the organization, which also includes the email to the Outreach coordinator if you need more specifics than this page provides. http://www.ncavp.org/AVPs/AVPDetail.aspx?id=567 Thanks again for your interest!
I love Submissive Angel… great story…
