Do you know that feeling when you finish a book and you’re not really ready for it to end so you sit still and imagine in your head what happens next? Yep. That is this book for me. I love it so much that I just want it to never end.

“Faro is a man with many faces who wears a lot of hats. He’s a great number of things to a great number of people, none of them real. None of them true.”

Syren is a connected man, many things to many people, but he’s most widely known as “Faro,” the face of the Delatorre cartel. The face of gunrunners, human traffickers, and drug smugglers. But things aren’t always what they seem. Syren holds many secrets and he’s suffered many years under the thumb of a sadistic psychopath with plans of exacting a personal vendetta. And nothing will stand in his way. Not even the marshal he hasn’t been able to get out of his head since he followed a friend’s lover and first laid eyes on US Marshall Kane Ashby. Kane is the first person Syren has ever wanted. Ever.

Kane Ashby lost the man he planned on spending his life with in a violent manner and he’s blamed himself and suffered the grief of his loss every day since. And then Syren storms into his life. A criminal, a ghost, and a beautiful broken man. His feelings for Syren feels like a betrayal to his dead lover, but Kane’s feelings for Syren continue to grow nevertheless. And every time they take a step forward in what can be loosely called a relationship, Syren seems to always run away.

Deep, dark secrets, a crazy cartel leader, the illness of a loved one, and fears from his past all plague Syren. Guilt and grief in his past, memories of the man he loved, and fears of moving on stand in the way of what Kane wants with Syren. As these Kane and Syren work through their demons, they have to learn to open up and trust one another with their lives before they are torn apart for good.

I have to start off with these characters. Have you read any of the other books in this series? Well, if you have, you’ve already met Syren (aka Mr. S as well as Faro) and Kane. And if you’re anything like me, you already loved them. If you haven’t read the other books in this series, what are you waiting for? Avril Ashton has been blessed with the gift of characterization. Syren and Kane on the outside are two stable, strong men with not a care in the world. But on the inside…well, the turmoil is painful to experience. Syren lives a hell that was given to him at a young age. He is broken and scarred. He’s afraid and haunted by his past. But on the flip side he is generous and caring to those he considers friends, which is a very small group of people. Kane suffers a torture of his own making, choosing to live in the past, and refusing to move on. But when he puts effort into moving on, he is near unstoppable. He’s still broken and sad, but he’s such a powerful presence. The way these two balance and heal one another is a beautiful thing.

This story is not for the faint of heart. It’s powerful and poignant. It’s a story of healing and growing up. It’s a story of love and reconciliation. And it’s a story of finding one’s self. I was glued to the pages. I lost sleep over this book and I could care less. The relationship, the revenge, the inevitable secrets to be revealed, all combined to make a showstopper of a story. Never before can I remember my heart breaking so many times within a story and still wanting more of it. And sexy doesn’t even begin to describe this book. If you’ve learned anything about me through my reviews it should be that I love kink and I absolutely love (read: drool over) a particular fetish that is given a wonderful spotlight in this story and I loved every steamy, dirty second of it. I don’t want to give it away, because I want you all to be a little surprised…if not a little turned on as well. I have been dying for Kane and Syren’s story since the very first Brooklyn Sinners book, and this story exceeds every expectation I had for them. I am just blown away.

Moving to a different aspect of the criminal world, Ashton takes readers on an adventure into the world of a drug smuggling, gunrunning, human trafficking cartel. Not only into the cartel, but nearest the leadership role. It’s a world of arrogance and fear. A world where people feel they are untouchable. Ashton leaves nothing to the imagination and this book is all the better for it.

I will let readers know that there is content in this book that surrounds a rape. The rape itself is not detailed in the story. It is a necessary and painful piece to the puzzle that this story creates, and it only adds to the greatness of this book.

I am enamored with Avril Aston’s Brooklyn Sinners series and even more so with A Sinner Born. I am so deeply in love with these characters and this story that it is definitely on my re-read list. I cannot wait to see what Ashton has up her sleeves next. I highly, highly recommend A Sinner Born by Avril Ashton.

Note: A Sinner Born is the third book in Avril Ashton’s Brooklyn Sinners series. Whereas, I guess you could read them out of order, they make the most sense if read in order. And really, it’s a great series, so I promise you that you don’t want to miss out on any of them.

P.S. Avril is giving away a copy of A Sinner Born and has also shared a sexy excerpt of Kane and Syren’s first kiss. So be sure to stop by and check it out.
