Hervé Cinq à Sept spends a lot of time on the other side of the Veil. He finds it relaxing. While at his favorite casino in the Bahamas, he runs into Lady Luck. Although she’s not usually his type, her eyes draw him in – eyes so much like his Tala’s  – and the attraction to her is strong. He wanted to ask her about Tala, but that could wait. When Lady Luck attacks Hervé in the elevator, things only go from bad to worse. He sees Tala’s face transposed over her’s, Lady Luck starts speaking of things Hervé doesn’t understand, and suddenly a group of elves show up and take her away. Determined to find out what happened, Hervé leaves for immediately for Leaich, the land of the Fey on his side of the Veil, only to discover that Lady Luck is actually the ancient Queen Teresa and Tala has been melded with her for the past two-hundred years in order to control her out-of-control powers and save his people.

Talathion Frostbane never thought he’d see Hervé again. He was given the responsibility of melding with the power hungry queen at a young age and couldn’t afford the emotional attachment Hervé’s presence represented. Now, two-hundred years later, Tala is sent away with Hervé in order to regain his strength so that he can once again meld with the queen. But it may be harder this time.

The attraction between Tala and Hervé has not faded in the past two centuries; if anything it’s gotten stronger. Dragonkin are known as a people who never fall in love, never commit. So Hervé must come to terms with his growing feelings for Tala, while Talathtion fights his fears, his past, and his ever increasing feelings for Hervé so that he can once again return and sacrifice himself, his life, for the good of his people.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I dove into this novel. Of course, the first thing that drew me to it was the dragon because I have a thing for dragons. Dragon’s Claim is the third book in Anya Richard’s Unveiled Seductions series, but it’s the only m/m novel in the series so far. Set in the same world, it has the bar and a few characters in common from what I understand, but it’s written as a standalone novel. I can tell you now that I love this book. And as a reader who rarely reads m/f, I’m very tempted to read previous novels.

The world that Richards lays out for readers is a bit of high fantasy mixed with urban fantasy. It’s creative and imaginative and oh-so amazing. It’s a world of elves and vampires, dragons and goblins. It’s a world where each race lives in harmony and accepts on another, for the most part. It’s a world where old laws, the rule of kings and queens, and secret missions pair with bars, tattoo parlors, and ska bands. Then there are the dragons that reportedly don’t do commitment, but are loyal to a fault when it comes to their friends. And there are the elves who are a soft-hearted, beautiful people – a people struggling to simply survive. It’s a mesh of everything I love about fantasy. And so, of course, I love this colorful, fabulous world.

I adore both of these men. Hervé is a strong man, brought to his knees by love. His whole world is turned upside down and he never once regrets any of his decisions. He is loyal, understanding, patient, and amazing. Tala breaks my heart. He’s torn between doing the right thing, what’s expected of him, and following his heart. He’s a tortured, self-sacrificing, beautiful man. And together…well, they are hot together. But other than the sex, they are a balance and calm one another. They are one of my new favorite couples.

And this story…it grabbed ahold of me and didn’t let go. The writing is fantastic and the pacing is perfect. This tale is captivating. It’s a sweet, exciting, sad, heart-pounding rollercoaster ride, and completely worth it. Like I’ve said before, I’m always a little wary of reading a new-to-me fantasy author, but that was never a problem with this book. I am in awe of this author’s imagination and I can’t wait to read more.

So to say I love this book is a little redundant, but, yeah, I love this book. The characters, the amazing world, and the fantastic story all combine to create a tale full of excitement, mystery, romance and fantasy. I cannot wait to read more of this author and I’m crossing my fingers now hoping for some more m/m from her. I highly recommend Dragon’s Claim by Anya Richards.
