Hello everyone! Today I am super excited to welcome the fabulous Jacob Z. Flores back to Joyfully Jay. Jacob is here to share with us more about his new release, Chasing the Sun.  He has a fun interview between him and his characters, as well as a great excerpt.  Jacob also brought an awesome giveaway to share. Sadly, he still did not return my handsome manservant that he stole last time he was here, but I will forgive him because he is totally awesome.

So please join me in giving Jacob a big welcome!

Hello, everyone! I’m Jacob Z. Flores, and I’m so thrilled to be back at Joyfully Jay! I just love Jay SO MUCH. She’ always been super sweet by allowing me to sully her blog with my presence. I didn’t think I could love Jay more. Then I met her at GRL.

Let me tell you: she is AWESOME SAUCE! She’s not only kind, gracious, and a hoot to hang around with, but she’s also pretty darn fine. That’s a knockout punch in my book.

So why am I here today besides gushing all over Jay? Well, Jay has been generous enough to agree to be a stop on my blog tour promoting my latest release from Dreamspinner Press, Chasing the Sun, which is the second book of the Provincetown Series.

To celebrate, I thought it might be fun to sit down with the main characters from the novella—Gil Kelly and Tom Martinez. This time, though, instead of interviewing them, I’m going to let them interview me. Before I surrender all control to them, however, here’s the story blurb to give you a bit of information on the characters.

Blurb

chasing the sunAs a physician and prominent citizen of Victoria, Texas, Dr. Gil Kelly took a hard fall when his vengeful wife revealed his infidelity with other men. Closing ranks around her, the town’s elite ostracized him, and his relationship with his children was nearly destroyed.

After spending his life focused on living for others, he has no idea how to live for himself. He wants to find love but now settles for anonymous sex that only further clouds his world with shame and guilt. Gil believes finding true love is an unobtainable dream, what his father used to call “chasing the sun.”

Then he runs into Tom Martinez, his son’s childhood best friend, who returned to town a grown man and offers everything Gil needs. But Gil hesitates to fall into Tom’s arms, because after his high-profile divorce, the potential scandal of loving a younger man could separate him from his children permanently.

Spin off of When Love Takes Over (1st Provincetown Series book)

So now that you know a little bit about Gil and Tom, I’m passing over the keyboard to them. Wish me luck!

Gil: Why do you need luck exactly? What do you expect Tom and I to do to you? We aren’t ruffians, you know?

Jacob: (eyeing Tom’s broad shoulders) Not ruffians, no. But Tommy here could break me in two if he wanted.

Tom: It’s Tom. Not Tommy. Why does everyone in this town forget that? I’m not exactly a scrawny little kid anymore.

Gil: (wiggles his eyebrows at Tom) No. You are most definitely not.

Tom: What? You wouldn’t like me all thin and twinky?

Gil: Of course I would. I’d like you any way I could have you. And, really, I can think of lots of ways to have you.

Tom: (scooting closer to Gil) Can you now? Well, Dr. Kelly, you have my full attention.

Jacob: Excuse me. But the two of you are supposed to be interviewing me. Not running down your list of sexual positions you’d like to try.

Tom: (To Gil) Ooh, speaking of sexual positions, what do you call that one we did by the pool? That was pretty damn awesome. You hit all the right places inside me.

Gil: You liked that, huh?

Tom: (nodding vigorously) Damn right I did.

Gil: Well, I call that one The Buck.

Jacob: (groaning) Why does this always happen to me?

Gil: (suddenly remembering that Jacob is in the room) What? You get put in The Buck often?

Jacob: What? No!

Tom: Pity. You totally should. It’s awesome!

Jacob: How about we get back to my interview? Aren’t there some questions you’d like to ask me?

Tom: Okay. How about this one? Why don’t you get put in the Buck position often?

Jacob: (sighing) I’m going to have to stop letting characters interview me. The interviews always get out of hand.

Gil: Well, we just asked you your first question and you’re the one refusing to answer it. That’s not really our fault, is it?

Jacob: Of course it is! You’re supposed to be asking me writing questions. Not questions about my sexual activities. Besides, I don’t even know what the Buck is!

Tom: (frowning) I’m so sad for you right now.

Jacob: You’ll be sadder when I edit your story and decrease the size of both of your manhoods by six inches.

Tom: (gasping) You wouldn’t? You couldn’t!

Jacob: I would, and I can.

Gil: Enough chitchat. How about we get to that interview?

Jacob: Yes, why don’t we?

Gil: So, Chasing the Sun is the second book of the Provincetown Series, but it isn’t set in Provincetown. Why is that?

Jacob: That’s actually a good question. After writing the first book in the series, When Love Takes Over, I realized I had another story I was just dying to tell. And since it was about you Gil, the story had to be set in your hometown of Victoria, Texas.

Gil: You were dying to tell my story? Why’s that?

Jacob: As you know, your relationship with your son Zach, who is one of the main characters in the first book, is, well, complicated.

Gil: That’s putting it mildly. We haven’t spoken in almost three years.

Jacob: Exactly. Although I told a little of yours and Zach’s back story in When Love Takes Over, I realized there was much more story to tell. I started asking myself: why is there such continued distance between Zach and his father? Was it all because of your past indiscretions—

Gil:  (frowning) As if enough people didn’t know about my tarnished past already!

Tom: (whispering to Gil) Don’t interrupt him. Unless you want your foot long to turn into a Vienna sausage.

Gil: I’m sorry, Jacob. You were saying?

Jacob: —or was there more to be learned about you? Also, to be quite honest, you didn’t come across too well in the first book.

Gil: Tell me something I don’t know. I was made to look like a complete jackass and an awful father.

Jacob: I know, and I’m sorry about that. But I realized we were only getting the story from Zach’s perspective. I wondered how you saw your relationship with Zach. I also wanted to work through whether Zach’s perspective was accurate or if it was clouded by youth and immaturity. I figured you deserved the right to be heard.

Gil: And I thank you for that. A lot of what Zach felt was accurate, unfortunately. But I don’t think I was the monster he grew up believing I was.

Tom: (grabbing a hold of Gil’s hand) You weren’t and you aren’t. You are a good man. You’ve always been a good man.

Gil: I don’t know about that, but I’m trying to be a better man now. That has to mean something, right?

Tom: It means the world.

Gil:  (to Tom) Thank you.

Tom: (to Gil) You’re welcome. (to Jacob) So you wanted to write Gil’s story. To give him a voice and to give others the chance to see things from his perspective, right?

Jacob: Exactly.

Tom: So why make me Gil’s love interest? Not that I’m complaining. Believe me! This man knows how to buck!

Jacob: (groaning)

Tom: But I’m Zach’s childhood best friend. Instead of clearing things up that seems more like muddying up already murky waters.

Jacob: I can see how you might think that, but Chasing the Sun isn’t about Zach. It’s about Gil and his search for happiness, the one thing in life that has constantly evaded him.

Gil: That’s the truth.

Jacob: And I wanted Gil to realize that happiness is not something we find. It’s something that finds us. Most often in the places we least expect to find it.

Tom: I like the way that sounds.

Gil: Me too.

Tom: So will you return to Provincetown for the next book in the series?

Jacob: Yes, we do. The third book is titled When Love Gets Hairy, and it should come out in January 2014. I can’t wait for readers to read Nino’s story. He’s Van’s best friend from the first book.

Gil: I can’t wait to meet him. Speaking of which, P-town sounds like a great place. Will we ever visit the sandy shores of Cape Cod or are our characters stuck in Texas?

Tom: Please don’t say we’re stuck in Texas.

Jacob: You’ll both be glad to know you’ll be appearing in the fourth and final book of the series.

Tom: (cheering) Yes! We finally get to see what all the fuss over Provincetown is about

Gil: (eyeing Jacob) Why do I get a sense that there’s a specific reason we will be headed to P-town in the last book?

Jacob: Maybe there is. Maybe there isn’t. You’ll just have to wait to find out.

Tom: Why do authors have to be so secretive?

Gil: (shrugging) They like to play god.

Jacob: One Vienna sausage penis coming right up!

Tom: (shrieking) No!

Gil: On that note, I say this interview has reached its end. Before I say something my penis will later regret.

Jacob: Too late for that.

Tom: (still shrieking) No!

Gil: (to Tom) Quick! If we run, we might make it to the fourth book unscathed.

Jacob: (watching Gil and Tom dash off) I’ll see you boys later. I promise.

Before I go, I want to thank everyone who stopped by today for this rather unconventional interview. It’s been fun. I also want to thank Jay for allowing me to visit yet again. Hopefully, we can do this again for the next book.

For those interested, I have included an excerpt below. Additionally, as part of my blog tour I’m holding a contest. All you have to do is leave a comment to this post, and your name is entered to win a free copy of Chasing the Sun. If a reader happens to follow all my blog stops, then she or he can leave a comment at the other sites a well. At the end of the tour, a winner will be chosen and announced.

Excerpt

Gil stood in the shadows of the backyard, away from the floodlights that Tom previously switched on. Was he really about to go skinny-dipping with Tom?

He wasn’t bothered any longer that Tom was Zach’s childhood friend. He was long past that.

Gil hid for reasons far more vain. Quite simply, he had the body of an old man.

Gil’s flesh wasn’t as supple as it once was. While he did his best to remain fit with a consistent workout regimen, his muscles lacked the definition of his youth. He carried some spare weight around his gut. He didn’t look pregnant or have man-boobs, but he wasn’t up to measuring his body against that of a man twenty years younger.

Like most men his age, his previously taut flesh had slightly wilted, and his balls dangled farther south than they used to. His full, red mane turned white a few years ago, and every day more white hair sprouted across his body.

Gil wasn’t certain he could disrobe in front of someone who probably had yet to find a gray hair anywhere.

Tom, however, had no such reservations. He shucked his shirt almost upon entering the backyard. His back muscles stretched and flexed as he tossed the garment onto the wicker pool furniture before he kicked off his shoes and pulled off his socks.

As Tom dipped his toe into the pool to gauge water temperature, Gil noticed a tattoo on his left deltoid. An unrecognizable pattern spiked around a heart about six inches wide. From where he stood, though, he couldn’t make out the larger shape due to the shadows cast across Tom’s arm and the strange geometry of the design.

“Water’s warm,” Tom commented as he gazed to where Gil stood in the shadows. He undid the button of his pants and hooked his fingers beneath the waistband. Before yanking them down, Tom paused, as if sensing Gil’s hesitation for the first time. “Aren’t you going to join me?”

“Just a bit shy, I guess,” he admitted. “I waved good-bye to my flat stomach some time ago.”

Tom chuckled while absently running his hand across his perfect abdominals, which, just like the rest of his torso, were free of body hair. “Oh, get over it!” Tom dropped his jeans and stood only in his red low-rise briefs. “Or I’ll just push you in.”

Gil couldn’t respond. He could only stare at the bulge perfectly cradled in Tom’s underwear across the yard from him. Hidden within the fabric rested a nicely sized cock that stretched the material across the groin. Gil squinted, hoping that would somehow allow him to see the outline of the cockhead that hid from his ravenous eyes. Fighting his desire to leap across the deck and take Tom’s package in his hand, Gil inhaled deeply, hoping the release of oxygen might soften the erection straining against his pants.

“Come on,” Tom prodded. “I’m not taking the rest off until you do. We’re both men. I’m not a little boy anymore.”

No shit! There was nothing little or boyish about Tom’s body. Strong and defined, his arms looked capable of curling forty-five pound dumbbells, and his muscled chest could possibly enable him to bench two hundred pounds quite easily.

He was all man, and Gil wanted to see the rest of Tom’s manly body, but in order to see what lay beneath the briefs, he had to first strip down to his. The problem, besides his timeworn body, was that his cock once again stood fully erect.

There was no way he could let Tom see that!
