Hi guys! Today I am thrilled to welcome back the most fabulous J.P. Barnaby to the blog.  J.P. is here to talk to us more about her new release, Painting Fire on the Air (which I reviewed last week and totally loved).  She is sharing her inspiration for the story and one of the most intense elements of the book, the fire flogging scenes.  In fact, J.P. is even sharing some incredible pictures of  Drake Jaden and Luke Riley doing a fire flogging scene (hidden behind the spoiler tag below).  And if that is not enough, J.P. brought a copy of the book for one lucky reader!  So please join me in giving her a huge welcome!
Painting Fire on the Air isnât strictly a BDSM novel. While the title hints at one of the BDSM scenes within its pages, the story is told from two completely different points of view: Ben, the lifestyle player and Jude his vanilla best friend. This isnât torture porn, or dub con â itâs two guys who find healing in each other.
There are, however, some spectacular BDSM scenes between Kage and Ben including a detailed fire-flogging scene. For those who arenât familiar with that particular type of play, fire flogging involves taking a flogger made of Kevlar, loading it with 70% iso-propyl alcohol, and setting it aflame. The Dom uses smooth strikes, landing on the subâs back which Drake Jaden (cover model for Painting Fire) tells me feels like a bad sunburn but only for a second, and then the pain subsides. A spotter is used to swipe the alcohol from the subâs skin between strikes or after a few strikes so that the accelerant on the skin doesnât hold the flame and burn the sub. Itâs an incredibly well-monitored activity, and the Dom is in absolute control of the situation.
Images from a demonstration done by Tony Buff first drew my attention to fire flogging. Since the cover model for the book had actually done it, I asked him to get me in touch with the studio that filmed it. At IML in 2011, Dire Callahan of Steel Mill Media screened a fire-flogging scene for me so that I could not only see it in action, but take notes and ask questions. Once I had written the scene, they helped me tweak different aspects from the subtlety of the Dom/sub interaction, to safety information, to the positioning of each player during the scene.
Dire also provided exclusive images from that scene for me to use to promote Painting Fire on the Air. Heâs incredibly proud of that scene, as is Drake Jaden. Itâs not something you normally see, even in hard core BDSM videos. So, take a look and then check out Painting Fire on the Air, and read about BDSM from an author whoâs been in the game for fifteen years, and her team of experienced players.
Note: After the spoiler tag are some amazing pictures of fire flogging scenes with Drake Jaden and Luke Riley. Both men are fully nude so be aware they are NSFW. Click on any of the pictures to make them bigger, then click the back arrow to return to the post.

A Survivor StoryÂ
From her perch on a shelf above my bed, the doll accuses me with lifeless eyes of failing Juliette in the most heinous way imaginable, forcing me to crave the bite of his whip and the steel in his voice to drown out the ache in my chest.Â
For his entire life, Benjamin Martinâs parents drilled into his head that he must watch out for his little sister, but one horrific night, he failed. Now, the bite of a whip, cuffs digging into his wrists, his arms and legs stretched beyond endurance, these things give him what he needs to forget his sisterâs violent death, at least for a while.
When Benâs latest Dom casts him aside like a broken toy, he manipulates his best friend, Jude Archer, into picking up the pieces. Jude has been in love with Ben for years, but his fantasies about his friend never included whipping him. He doesn’t understand why Ben needs BDSM and he worries about Benâs addiction. Most of all, he fears losing his humanity because heâs already lost himself in Ben. When heâs forced to trade the marks upon his soul for the pain that ravages Ben, Jude learns the real definition of submission.

Bio
Award winning romance novelist, J. P. Barnaby has penned over a dozen books including the Forbidden Room series, the Little Boy Lost series, and Aaron. As a bisexual woman, J.P. is a proud member of the GLBT community both online and in her small town on the outskirts of Chicago. A member of Mensa, she is described as brilliant but troubled, sweet but introverted, and talented but deviant. She spends her days writing software and her nights writing erotica, which is, of course, far more interesting. The spare time that she carves out between her career and her novels is spent reading about the concept of love, which, like some of her characters, she has never quite figured out for herself.

Oh boy, I want to be the one being fireflogged! There is a person who is near enough by me whom I’m debating whether or not I can get a session for fire flogging. Mmmmm. Reading this story only made me want to be fire flogged even more. I already love fireplay.
