When his best friend signs him up for a shifter dating website, Jude Lawson is skeptical at first, but he can’t deny the attraction he has to the idea of a strong, domineering shifter. Jude hasn’t always made the best choices in guys – case in point, his most recent ex-boyfriend who was overly possessive and beyond controlling. But hoping to move past his bad choices, Jude is looking forward to the date the agency has set him up on.

Red fox shifter Logan Carter views mating differently than other shifters. Logan accepts that shifters have fated mates, but that bond doesn’t necessarily mean the fated mates are a personality match. Logan wants someone to grow old with, someone who will love him and the little brother that he is raising.

The instant connection on the personal level between Jude and Logan almost trumps the fact that the human is his mate…almost. Logan’s fox wants Jude, but he wants to get to know the man first, find out if they are a fit. The more time they spend together, the more obvious it is that the two were meant to be together. And just when Jude and Logan make the decision to mate, hate groups and Jude’s ex threaten to tear them apart.

Bite Me is the first book in Jana Downs’s Harmony Shifters series.  It is a fun, cute, feel-good story. I loved the creativity of this story. From the uncommon shifters to the twist of the shifter virus, Downs presents a world that is new and different…in a good way.

I adore these characters. Jude and his strength after his break up and his perseverence in the face of hatred. And Logan and his consistency and following his beliefs. They are wonderful characters. No instant love here. One thing I do wish, when it comes to Jude and Logan, is that readers would have been able to see their relationship develop. See the getting-to-know-you stage, the ups and downs, the mistakes and good times.

Now, this world. I really like that it’s different and refreshing. The shifter virus that creates shifters, the fact that two people could be of the same family yet still be different shifters due to the virus, the knowledge that everyone knows of the shifters, even the dating site all serve to create a world that is light, airy, and fun. I truly enjoyed it.

The story itself is adorable – no angst, light-hearted, and fun. I really liked it. Although, I wish there would have been description when it came to the hate groups. I would have liked to know more about them. Maybe see a little more action between Nick and Jude and Logan. But all in all it is a good, sweet story.

Overall, Bite Me is a sweet story of new love. It’s angst-free and totally feel good. I really liked the world and I’m looking forward to what’s coming up next in this series. I recommend Bite Me to readers who enjoy paranormal stories and those who like stories that are light-hearted and fun.
