Today I am so excited to welcome author S.E. Jakes back to the blog.  S.E. is here to talk to us more about her newest release, Dirty Deeds. This book is set in the same Extreme Escapes Limited world as her Hell and High Water series (which I am totally crazy about). I just reviewed Dirty Deeds yesterday and really enjoyed it!

So please join me in giving S.E. a big welcome!

Dirty Deeds Tour Banner

YAY!  So excited to be back with you here, Miss Jay 🙂

Hey everyone!!! Thanks to Joyfully Jay for having me back here for my Dirty Deeds blog tour 🙂  Dirty Deeds is the first in this spin-off series of Hell or High Water.  Dirty Deeds focuses on Cillian and Mal, two characters who’ve been in both Hell or High Water books 1 & 2 (Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone). Dirty Deeds # 1 captures a very specific moment in time for the Cillian (the spook) and Mal (the former SEAL in exile).

Now Dirty Deeds is set in the same world as several of your other books, including Free Falling and the Hell or High Water series.  This one features Cillian and Mal, two characters who have appeared in some of those other books. So my first question is why did you decide to branch off and give these guys their own story?

You know, it’s all their fault.  No, really.  Because my original contract with Riptide was for 4 Hell or High Water books (that never changed) and then Sarah asked if I could write 2 shorts in that world.  So I was thinking that they’d both revolve around Prophet and Tommy.  And then Cillian and Mal kind of decided that they needed a series and I can’t remember if Sarah or I figured, hey, I think the short needs to be about Cillian and Mal.

I totally love these guys and have found them fascinating since they first appeared in the other books. But neither are particularly easy men.  Was it challenging to write for Cillian and Mal?  Especially since Mal doesn’t talk?

It wasn’t for Mal…not for Dirty Deeds, anyway.  I think readers will understand a bit more as to why when they read.  But Mal’s got a military background, so communication for him was always on the quieter side, if that makes sense.  His team understands him still, and thankfully there’s a lot of technology that helps him.  I think since I ‘met’ Mal not talking, that was just something that was a part of him, like Tommy’s voodoo.  Cillian, on the other hand…he was more challenging.  Because he’s one thing and then…there was more there I didn’t know.  And now I do.  And now, you will too –I babble so I don’t give spoilers

Ok, I will admit that a part of me thought Cillian might end up with Prophet (from the Hell or High Water series). They certainly have flirted and danced around each other a lot!  Did you ever consider hooking them up at all? Maybe before things were settled between Tom and Prophet?

I didn’t know.  I mean, I really and truly mean it when I say that I don’t know (a lot of the time) what my characters are going to do.  They tell me some stuff but then I’m let in slowly.  So a lot of the time, what surprises my readers surprises me too while I’m writing.  I don’t plot (can’t, obviously) so this keeps the writing really exiting (and a little scary for me)…so to go back to the question, I mean, I did think it might happen for Catch a Ghost.  But once I started Long Time Gone, I knew it wouldn’t happen.  Not from Prophet’s end, anyway.  And now… (Must.  Not.  Spoil.)

Now that Cillian and Mal have gotten their own book, do you have more planned for them? Can you tell us what else we can expect (or hope for!)?

Oh yeah – this novella is just the beginning.  They have two more full books devoted to them (Dirty Lies and Dirty Love), and the plot will be apart from what’s happening in Hell or High Water.  So that should be…interesting.

How about for the rest of this world? Do you have more stories planned in the other series (I love Tom and Prophet but I’d go crazy for another Mick and Blue story)?

Yeah, I have plans for Blue and Mick—I’ve had a lot of readers wanting more of their story. And Blue is one of my all-time favorite characters.  I hear him as much as I do Prophet. I needed to give them some time first, so I’m thinking after the Dirty Deeds series is done in 2015.  And after that, I don’t know.  I’m sure more will come up as I’m writing but right now, my plate is over-full (in an excellent way)

Do you have anything else you are working on that you would like to tell us about?

Well, I’m working on a book for Riptide that comes out June 30th (but the series hasn’t been announced yet)…plus the last couple of Prophet / Tommy books.  And then I got asked to be a part of another series (for 2015).  Plus the Men of Honor spin-off. Plus a free read.  Plus a very secret project…

So, um, lots.  Seven books on the schedule, and I’m hoping for nine-ish.

Dirty Deeds:  Dirty Deeds book 1

dirty deedsTwo seasoned operatives finally meet their match: each other.

Cillian works for the mysterious Special Branch 20: an organization that runs black ops commissioned by the British government. His specialty is deep undercover assignments with virtually no support. He’s been alone for so long that he no longer knows anything else.

Mal’s also used to being alone. Wanted in several states and even more countries, he’s not allowed in the vicinity of any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. And his current assignment is to track Cillian in order to discover the spook’s endgame. Except he’s no longer sure which one of them is getting played.

Cillian isn’t about to let the mission that’s consumed him for the past several years crumble because an outsider is poking around where he doesn’t belong. But Mal forces his way through Cillian’s defenses—and into his heart—exposing a devastating betrayal that could destroy them both.
