Motion of the Planet is a difficult book to review, since I don’t want to give away major elements of the plot, but it’s extremely hard to talk about it otherwise. I can say that it’s a book about two men, Tyler Brown and Mason Fitzgerald, who are in a loving, strong relationship when tragedy strikes. Suddenly their lives are turned upside down, and they have to figure out if they’re strong enough to handle the changes to their life that they never expected.

I’m a big fan of Alexa Snow and loved her m/m/m book, Sleeping Stone, so I was anxious to read this novella. She is a talented writer, and this book is no exception. She has created two characters you immediately love. Sometimes we get so used to the angst of developing relationships, it’s nice to take a break and read one about partners who are committed to each other, have a loving relationship, and still manage to have passion as well. Mason in particular is an absolute angel. He is everything you’d ever want in a man, and the two of them together are heartwarming.

I tried really hard to rate this book based on what it is, rather than what I’m used to or expected. This is a romance, but it’s not your typical love story. The entire novella is based around a tragic incident, so I read the book with a bit of a knot in my stomach the entire time. I was devastated for them and, while it’s nice to read about a couple who can weather the storm together, I can’t say it made for a particularly pleasant reading experience. Add to that the several sex scenes, which were steamy and sexy but seemed in stark contrast to the devastation that was surrounding the two of them. They may have been in the mood, but I just wasn’t.

If you know what you’re getting into and you like kind of sad stories with a hopeful ending, I can highly recommend this book. Alexa Stone is still high on my list of must-read authors. I’m just ready for something a little lighter from her the next time around.
