Hello everyone! Today I am so excited to welcome the fabulous Katey Hawthorne to the blog. Katey has a new book out in her awesome Superpowered Love series called In Distress (and I’m reviewing it later today). She is sharing a nice, dirty excerpt with us and also offering up a copy to give away. So please join me in giving her a big welcome!
Excerpt (NSFW)
He started kissing my lips as he rearranged us. And he was right, at least on his end—coffee breath wasn’t really a problem yet. His towel came undone, so I grabbed it and threw it aside. His skin was still pink from the hot water, his dick half-hard already. He straddled but didn’t settle on my thighs, and the temperature around him dropped slightly but obviously. Then he leaned forward and pressed icy pointer fingers into my shoulders.
The bed was warm beneath me, the clean linen soft against my skin, and the goose bumps that popped out all over my torso somehow made that even more obvious. I writhed under him as his fingertips left cold trails from my collarbone down, down, over my pecs and rib cage, tracing the edges of my hip bones, into the waist of my shorts. When he tucked his hands into them and pulled downward, I shivered at the touch, and my dick gave a twitch as a new rush of blood filled it out. I barely managed to huff a breathless “Oh my God.”
“Superpowers are pretty great.” A smug little smirk appeared on Cal’s pretty lips.
“Uhn. Uh-huh.” That was about all I could manage. He began edging backward to finish peeling off my shorts, and my dick popped right up once it was free. Like, Hi, I’m here, gimme all your attention, please.
His gaze lingered on it, but he pulled off the shorts first, then crawled back up and pointedly did not settle down on me, just straddled over my thighs, all naked and— Look, my mind was not really working that well, so all I could think was yum. I propped myself up on my elbows to get closer to him, but he leaned forward and stopped me from sitting up all the way with a freezing hand against my collarbone.
My nipples went hard as little pebbles. I groaned and shifted my hips, but there was nothing for my cock to rub against conveniently. “It’s not often that I feel really inadequate…” But damn, he hadn’t even gotten started, and he was making me feel so hot.
Cold. Whatever. I just wanted.
He leaned down, rearranging himself slightly so my cock brushed at the inside of his thigh and his rubbed my belly. Then he touched his hot tongue to my chest, just where his hand had been, changing up the sensation from cold and dry to hot and wet in an instant. He worked downward, leaving a trail of warm spit behind on my skin. When he pulled away a little just above my navel, he touched the wet trail.
A web of frost shot up it. My whole body broke out in goose bumps again, my skin waking up in ways I had never felt before, I was pretty sure. I groaned and rutted against his leg, trying to get more of him in that stupid blood-starved way. “Fffuck…”
He licked his way back up, this time over my right nipple and stopping at my shoulder. By the time he got there, the first little trail had warmed and begun to dry. “Mmm-hmm, that’s the idea.” He touched the new trail and sent frost racing up it even as he leaned in to kiss me.
I groaned into it again and grabbed for his ass with one hand, trying to pull him into my lap. His skin was unexpectedly warm and soft, and damn, he had a firm little backside, and I wanted it on me.
“I wanna do to you what you did to me the other night,” he mumbled into my lips. “That first time, on your couch—I was just desperate. To be touched. To forget.
“But at Stacy’s, you showed me things about you too. You were in charge…but gentle.” He nipped at my bottom lip and finally, finallysettled his ass just above my dick, holding it in place and then letting it rest in his crack. I shifted beneath him, and he let me but held me right where he wanted with his long, strong thighs and—oh God, really, thatass.
He went on talking quietly, nipping and kissing and making me breathless. “You figured out what I wanted and gave me what I needed. I wanna do that to you. Make you weak. Make you want. Make you so hard…”
In some really far-off recess of my malfunctioning brain, I realized this was him. This was Callum when he wasn’t scared, distracted, hunted, guilty. I realized that it was better than I’d imagined—but also that I hadn’t actually imagined anything in particular about him since he’d shown up at my door. For once.
He cut the thought short by shifting downward to reach my nipple with his mouth, which put his cock in contact with mine. He arched to rub them together and sucked wetly, his tongue teasing back and forth gently at first, then mercilessly. He ended with his lips clamped, teeth scraping, sucking hard. I groaned so loud I was glad we were in a wooded cabin in the middle of nowhere, because goddamn.
Cal sat up slightly, reaching to pinch at my nipple. His fingers were cold but not frozen. Still, it was a shock to the hot, wet, beautifully tortured skin there. He said, “Then I want to ride you. When you come, I want it in me.”
And he pinched, fingers suddenly going icy.
“Mrrrrrph…ugh.” Words? What were words even? I rocked my hips against him desperately, leaning back on my elbows and letting my head drop.
“This the good kind of speechless?” he asked.
“Uh-huh.”
Just as I thought I couldn’t take any more cold (even if I totally wanted to), he started licking and sucking my nipple again, warming it up gently. As he did that, he sat up a little to rearrange my dick in his ass crack once more. Then he sat up completely, settled himself into my lap, and reached around behind him to rub at my cock between his tight little ass cheeks with one hand. Cool but not cold. The cold hand, he played down the middle of my abs.
He teased me like that for long, perfect moments, icy, then warm, suspended and thick and so hot I couldn’t breathe. Finally I groaned or grunted something that must’ve sounded like begging enough for him to give in. He got off me just long enough to retrieve a condom and lube, covered my dick in both, then climbed right back on.
Blurb
Hopeless romantic Eddie Kim acts out his favorite ‘rescued by the white knight’ fantasies through weekly D&D campaigns, but had almost given up hope of ever getting a real one. Then Callum, a mysterious red-head with freezing superpowers and a memorable kiss, saves him from a house but disappears without a trace. Taking pity on him, Eddie’s friends look to craiglist to relocate his hero.
Unfortunately, the publicity brings down the kind of attention Callum Race been trying to avoid; he’s in town to try and clear his family name, and now the dangerous superpowered organization he needs to thwart know he’s come home again. Still, he can’t help following up with Eddie.
The heat between Callum and Eddie flares instantly, and Eddie insists on helping to undo the damage his romantic notions have done. The problem: that will mean becoming embroiled in a nefarious plot, not to mention a superpowered world Eddie didn’t even know existed a week ago. The ‘bad guys’ will try to trick and use him, and in the meantime he has to convince Cal to trust him enough to be the white knight for once–and for real–instead of the perpetual damsel in distress.

I am all about the stand-alone, where the building can happen in any order, in things I read too. So I totally feel you. Thanks for giving it a shot, Ani!

Hi Sadonna–and good luck!
I’ve not read this author’s work and would appreciate the opportunity. The gender fluidity is what attracts me.
Hey Andrea, thanks for giving it a chance. I’m definitely planning on having more gender fludity in my books as time goes on too. Super important to me!
I like your writing style. Not everyone can make first person POV flow this well.
Wow, thank you so much, that’s so kind! It can be super awkward, it’s true–but I love reading 1st person when it’s done right. Thanks for checking it out!
I love the excerpt, especially the first person POV, and super heroes. Win/win. 😀
Please count me in for the contest.
thnak you for the post and the chance !!!
This sounds like a great book! Please count me in. Thank you!
