I want to start this review off by saying this book is not for everyone. I’ve heard a lot about it over the past several weeks. So let me tell you—this book is taboo. It’s a book about incest between twins, commonly known (to the m/m genre anyway) as twincest. So if any of that creeps you out then, this book is probably not your cup of tea.

Here’s the thing; this book is more than twincest. Believe it or not, it’s about diversity in the face of adversity. It’s about the family we have and the family we make. But most of all, it’s about following your heart and trusting where it takes you.

So, let me tell you a little about it.

Kyle and Kevin Beauchamp have shared everything since the womb—all except one thing.

After a particularly satisfying win, Kyle finds himself with a problem while sitting at the back of the bus on the way back home. When Kevin tells him to take care of it while he keeps an eye out, the last thing Kyle expects is a blowjob. And although it’s something he hadn’t thought about before, he doesn’t regret it, even if, days later, they are still ignoring the fact that it happened.

When their parents have to make an emergency trip to take care of their sick grandmother, Kyle and Kevin explore their confusion and feelings for one another. In the midst of dealing with their new feelings, Kevin and Kyle are forced to deal with the ignorance of a fellow student who is threatening revenge. Then their classmate discovers a picture that threatens to not only destroy their reputation, but also tear their family apart.

As emotions grow and things become real, Kevin and Kyle face the things that threaten to tear them apart—friends, college plans, parents, and teachers. In a town where being gay can be considered taboo, can Kevin and Kyle find a way to live their lives they want to and to be happy?

See, this story is heavily laden in what some call controversy, but what I call storytelling. What I took away from this book is that sometimes love is hard. Sometimes a gray area lies between black and white. And sometimes what I may think is right or wrong doesn’t mean the same is true for everybody.

Bullying is a major theme in this story. And if there is one thing I hate it’s the ignorant actions of a shameless bully, and this author wrote her bully with emotional accuracy. I was appalled and disgusted by the hatred spewed, yet I was proud and humbled at the strength of Kyle and Kevin. And the support, the unexpected support, from friends and family is what gave this story heart. As shocking and disturbing as the blatant bullying was, it was even more heartwarming for the love displayed, not only between the brothers, but also their loved ones.

One of the things I like about this author is that she takes stereotypes and shatters them. There are so many to be dealt with in this story, but since I just told you of the bullying side of this story, I’ll go with that. With a Mean Girls feel, Celeste brings in the ultimate bully in Heather. She shows how, with lies and rumors, lives can not only be changed but torn apart. It breaks my heart at the sad but true realism of this character and the maelstrom her actions cause.

So platforms covered, let me tell you about the story, because yes, there is an actual story here. This author is a master storyteller. No matter what I pick up of hers, I’m immediately captivated. From the beginning the angst, the emotion, and the drama are evident. The confusion and distress radiate off ot the page. Anger and fear are palpable. But it’s the romance, the love that is so beautifully written here. And I’m telling you guys, this story… H-O-T. After the first chapter I wasn’t sure how it could get hotter, but it did… it so did.

So, yeah, everybody is going to have their own opinion on this book—that’s how it should be—but if you ask me, it’s a winner on more than one level. It’s sexy. It’s sweet. It’s heartbreaking and heart-warming. It’s sad and surprising. I loved it, and I certainly hope there is more to come. I highly recommend Two Point Conversion by Mercy Celeste.
