Micah Lewis enjoys his life in the small village of Little Mowbury. Sure, his mother lives next door and has no qualms about showing up at his job and the town is full of busybodies. Micah is happy with who he is, his friends, his family, and his job. When new neighbors move in across the street, he’s not surprised when his mother wants to be the first to welcome them to town—or the first to get the dirt on the new folks. What he is surprised by is the man who moved in.

Harry Boyd was the love of Micah’s life and after years together at university, Harry broke Micah’s heart and never looked back, or so Micah thought. Now, six years later, Harry is living across the way with his pregnant partner, Selena. Micah thought he was over the hurt Harry had caused, but it turns out he was only fooling himself. But things aren’t the way they seem.

As hard as Micah tries to avoid Harry, he’s always around. Finally cornered and at the end of his rope, Micah is forced to listen to the truth about their break up. When the storm settles, Micah has a decision to make. Keep hiding from the love he’s always wanted or dive in head first and suffer the consequences.

Un-expected by Lisa Worrall is the first book in the Left at the Crossroads series by Lisa Worrall and Sue Brown.

I dearly enjoyed this story. It was a sweet story of meant to be and reconciliation. This author took a pretty common storyline and made it her own, which is always a plus for me. I enjoyed the tension and love in this book. Second chances and family are the theme of this story. The struggles and issues that these men face are affected by their past, and how they handle them this time around will affect their future. I was drawn into this story from the first scene and glue to the page until the last. I enjoyed it immensely.

Micah and Harry are great characters. What I like most about Micah is his heart. The man suffered a life crushing heartbreak, yet he came out of it strong and confident but not jaded. While not one who is quick to forgive and forget, his heart knew from the beginning that he would do anything to have Harry back. While this story is written from Micah’s POV, Harry is quite prominent. And talk about big hearted. His heart is different. He is of the self-sacrificing sort. He would give anything, be anything, to protect those he loves. And that’s exactly what he does.

The journey of these men finding one another once more and falling in love again is what makes this story so wonderful. The beauty of second chances and forgiveness are strong in this book. And the path these two men make—the mistakes, the loss, the heartbreak—make all the difference.

There is a little bit of heart pounding action at the end of the story that you won’t want to miss either. And what that scene adds to this story is a sense of togetherness—not only between Micah and Harry, but with the town as a whole. Honestly, I adored it. I laughed. I could just picture Mrs. Abernathy shouting, “Busybodies UNITE!” Like I said the story is sweet and a little heartbreaking, but it’s also a lot of fun.

Overall, I truly adored this one. The characters are wonderful and the story is great. I’m looking forward to what’s to come from this series. I definitely recommend Un-expected by Lisa Worrall.
