Today I am so pleased to welcome Clare London back to Joyfully Jay. Clare has come to talk to us about her latest release, No Angel. She has also brought along copies of the book for two lucky readers!  Please join me in giving Clare a big welcome!

THE DOUBLE NEGATIVE GHOST

It’s a very British thing – the double negative speak!
“I wouldn’t say no.”
“It’s not that I don’t want to do it.”
“He’s not unattractive.”
“It wasn’t unexciting.”

And so to the title of my new book, named after a popular phrase of my gran’s:
“He’s no angel!” In other words, the opposite of angel – a devil, maybe?

Bryn is the No Angel/Devil in question. He’s the ghost who pinches Felix’s arse on Felix’s way home one night on the bus. Felix is of course outraged at first, but his natural kindness and curiosity let Bryn follow him home, and eventually accept him into Felix’s life.

Mad, eh? Felix thinks so, but he manages to talk himself into it in the end. And Bryn turns out to offer more than just lewd comments, criticism and complaint. Bryn turns out to have been waiting for a friend like Felix, all along. He acts as perspective on Felix’s relationship with his disabled brother Patrick, who’s starting to rebel against Felix’s well-meaning but patronising help. And Bryn also nudges Felix towards consummating a relationship with his best friend Mickey, who’s just waiting for the go-ahead for them to have more than friendship between them.

And then they all join up to solve a real-life problem, when a young girl goes missing…

But the whole No Angel thing? To me, double negatives show more tolerance than direct ones. Don’t you think “It was boring” is so much harsher than “It wasn’t unexciting”? And so “He’s no angel” is said with a certain indulgence and kindness. At least, it is on Felix’s part! To him, Bryn is not a devil at all.

I hope many of you enjoy the book, and follow Felix’s grudging fondness for his ghostly stalker. I’d love to hear from you if you do!

Clare London

Blurb

No AngelFelix’s life is full, juggling a supportive homelife for his disabled brother, a job as a care home assistant, a brand new boyfriend – and now he’s had his arse pinched by a lewd gay ghost on the late night bus!

If only that were the end of it. But Bryn the ghost follows him home and wheedles himself into Felix’s life. That includes sharing his shameless opinions on the patronising way Felix treats his brother, on how Felix should eat more food and put some flesh on his bones, and – worst of all – exactly how Felix should be getting down to it with his seriously sexy new boyfriend Mickey! And in between all that, Bryn finds time to leer at Felix himself and make outrageous suggestions on what they’d be doing if Bryn wasn’t … well … ghostly.

Felix considers he’s a tolerant guy. But the last thing he needs now is to get wrapped up in the mystery of a missing teenage girl, the inhabitants of a local squat, and conversations with a fire-and-brimstone old preacher. However, with a nudge or six from Bryn, the help of his brother Patrick, and some cosy loving from Mickey – Felix starts to wonder how he ever thought his life was busy before!

Bio

Clare London pictureClare took the pen name London from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with the weekly wash, waiting for the far distant day when she can afford to give up her day job as an accountant. She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy. Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic and sexy characters.

Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter 3 stage and plenty of other projects in mind . . . she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.

All the details and free fiction are available at her website. Visit her today and say hello!
