Today I am so pleased to welcome K.A. Merikan to Joyfully Jay. The authors have come to talk to us about their latest release, The Devil’s Ride, from their Sex & Mayhem series. They have also brought along a copy to give away.  Please join me in giving them a big welcome!

When I was a teenager, beards were very passe. They reminded me of men from my dad’s generation, who didn’t get the memo about changing fashions. Sadly, the bald heads and baggy clothes that were in at the time, I hated even more. You know, because I’m such a misfit 😉 A handsome, young guy with a beard seemed like such a foreign concept that me and Kat wrote a book where getting rid of a character’s facial hair was a big part of the overarching fantasy plot because shabbiness was the only thing most people associated with beards.

But in the last few years we’ve been witness to an epic comeback of facial hair. It’s not just your weird uncle wearing a beard or moustache, but also hot, fashionable guys that make you drool. All of a sudden beards became cool again because, let’s face it, all of a sudden it was cool people wearing them. With the stigma of shabbiness gone, facial hair is back in the mainstream, and bearded heroes are making a comeback in romance.

I can’t deny being attracted to a man with a beard, and so when we started planning the second biker book in the Sex & Mayhem series, I knew Tooth would be that buff and bearded type, with a dangerous glint in his eyes and unruly long hair. In fact, his beard is a character in its own right and provides a reason for the protagonists to have physical contact, as Luci wants to become a barber and needs a model.

Hop on the bitch seat and ride with Tooth, the feared vice president of the Coffin Nails motorcycle club. No one wants to end up in his dentist’s chair, deep underneath the club compound, but his bed? That might be another matter. Lucifer, the bastard son of Tooth’s friend, is used to doing things his way, and being under supervision of the most intimidating man he ever met is the last thing he wants. At least until he understands that there’s no place safer than the mattress at the feet of Tooth’s bed.

I enjoy stories with plenty sexual tension that for one reason or another can’t be resolved right away. That’s the case with The Devil’s Ride. Tooth and Luci can’t, or rather may not be together for a variety of reasons, and with danger lurking right behind the corner, the stakes are getting higher with every chapter.

Tooth grinned at him. “I admit, this feels nicer than I thought. What else are you gonna do?”

“I will wash your beard and trim your moustache. How about that? You trust me enough for that?” Lucifer got out his scissors from the drawer, all giddy about getting his hands on Tooth’s grooming. He’d been dreaming about it since he started learning about barbering.

Tooth blinked. “God, just don’t give me a handlebar. They seem freakishly popular these days.”

“Nah, I’ll just trim it for you.” Luci clipped with the scissors in the air to give Tooth a scare. He’d love to do it while sitting in Tooth’s lap, but that was a no-go.

The guy was a suspiciously willing participant in the whole process, and it took some time because Luci wasn’t all that experienced. When they were finally done, Tooth looked amazing. Like one of those masculine-looking male models. He had the perfect balance between beauty and a wild edge that radiated from his eyes, drawing Luci in.

Luci towel-dried his hair and led him out of the bathroom. “There. Good as new.” He smiled and handed Tooth a T-shirt as he admired the work he’d done on the beard. It was still long, but a bit more shapely, without stray hairs, the throat shaven.

Tooth pulled on the T-shirt and walked up to the mirror with a slight frown. He moved his head, put his hand against his throat, looking at Luci’s handiwork. “Looks like I should be your practice head more often,” he concluded.

A flame of excitement ignited in Luci’s heart, and he stepped up to Tooth. “You would? I’d be extra careful and shit.”

Tooth smiled. “I just let you use a razor on my throat.”

Luci grinned. “…Can I hug you?” He held his breath waiting for an answer.

Tooth looked into the mirror, and his mouth twitched. He raised one arm, clearly making space for Luci. That was all the encouragement Lucifer needed. He clung to Tooth, wrapping his arms around Tooth’s midsection, smelling the fresh scent of the washing powder he used for the laundry.

Blurb

The Devil's Ride— You don’t fuck with the club president’s son. —

Tooth. Vice President of the Coffin Nails Motorcycle Club. On a neverending quest for vengeance. The last thing he needs is becoming a permanent babysitter for a male hooker.

Lucifer. Fallen. Lost. Alone.

After a childhood filled with neglect and abuse, followed by his mother’s suicide, Lucifer set out into the world alone. There was nothing for him out there other than taking it one day at a time. As the bastard son of the Coffin Nails club president, Lucifer never got much fatherly love. So when the Nails show up at the strip joint Lucifer works in, the last thing he expects is to be put in the custody of Tooth, the Nails Vice President famous for his gruesome interrogation techniques. The man proves to be the sexiest beast Lucifer has ever met. He’s also older, straight, and an itch Luci can’t ever scratch.

Tooth’s life came to a halt twelve years ago. His lover got brutally murdered, police never found the perpetrators, and all leads were dead ends. To find peace and his own justice, Tooth joined the Coffin Nails, but years on, he’s gotten nowhere with the case, yet still lives on with the burning fire for revenge.

Babysitting a deeply scarred teenager with a talent for disappearing is the last thing on his bucket list. He promised himself to never get attached to someone like him again. To make sure the openly gay boy is safe in the clubhouse, Tooth is stuck keeping an eye on him. The big, blue, attention seeking gaze is drawing Tooth in, but fucking the president’s son is a complete no-go, even when both their feelings go beyond lust.

What Tooth doesn’t know is that Lucifer might hold the key to the closure Tooth so desperately needs.

Bio

K.A. Merikan is the pen name for Kat and Agnes Merikan, a team of writers, who are taken for sisters with surprising regularity. Kat’s the mean sergeant and survival specialist of the duo, never hesitating to kick Agnes’s ass when she’s slacking off. Her memory works like an easy-access catalogue, which allows her to keep up with both book details and social media. Also works as the emergency GPS. Agnes is the Merikan nitpicker, usually found busy with formatting and research. Her attention tends to be scattered, and despite pushing thirty, she needs to apply makeup to buy alcohol. Self-proclaimed queen of the roads.

They love the weird and wonderful, stepping out of the box, and bending stereotypes both in life and books. When you pick up a Merikan book, there’s one thing you can be sure of – it will be full of surprises.

Inspiration never failed them so far, but they are ready to hunt down the exotic and unique. Kat and Agnes are pursuing their dream of becoming full fledged virtual nomads. Having gotten rid of their apartment and with most of their belongings put in storage, they are choosing their own path in life, ready to experience all the world has to offer while working on their books.
