Dirty Minds Part Three
“A cat, Cole?” Jae’s lips were a tight line across his handsome face. “You risked your life for a cat?”
I’d wanted to refuse medical care but Bobby insisted he at least take me to the ER to get my head checked. Allegedly he was concerned I’d struck my skull when I rolled. In reality, I overheard him tell a nurse he thought I had a stroke or something because only an idiot or someone who’d lost his mind would have held onto a stolen van speeding up Wilshire.
Also, getting X-rayed and scanned gave me a bit of breathing space. Since Jae couldn’t actually be in the room with me so yelling had to wait. Eventually, he caught up with me—or rather I was wheeled to him. And it was not pleasant.
“I thought you said you sent him home?” I muttered to my best friend as the nurse pushed the wheelchair past Bobby.
“I did.” His teeth sparkled under the hospital lights. “Doesn’t mean he listened.”
Bobby abandoned me with Jae. So did the nurse. She did take a good long hard look at Jae’s ass before she squeaked back off to the counter, warning me not to get up out of the wheelchair until I was wheeled outside and thrown to the wolves.
Luckily for me, I already had Jae nipping at my heels.
“Seriously, Cole-ah.” Jae crossed his arms over his chest. His biceps rounded nicely under the t-shirt he’d changed into. Oddly, I seemed to be losing focus on what he was saying and finding myself drifting off to stare at his pretty mouth. “The cat? Want to explain about the cat? Why would you do that? For a cat?”
I could have given him a long list of reasons. Even logical reasons. But I went with the truth.
With Jae, I could always tell the truth.
“Because I did it for you.” I pressed his palm to my lips and his fingers cupped my face, a caress as gentle as his sigh. “Because today should have been about their marriage. Not about a loss. Even one as small as a cat.
“The loss of a cat is never small, agi.” Jae’s snort could have been derisive but I chose to think of it as understanding. “I hate it when you break me apart. Couldn’t I just stay mad?”
The kiss he gave me wasn’t gentle. His lips caught on the small tear on my lower lip. For all of my tuck and rolling, the street still took its pound of flesh. Most of it was off my knees and back but my face wasn’t spared its salty, asphalt kiss.
Jae’s heat warmed me up a hell of a lot more than my roll on the pavement did and I grabbed at his waist, meaning to pull him down into my lap. As theories went, it was a good one. Practicality, however, had a different take on fantasy. Tugging a six-foot tall Korean man into a hospital wheelchair is not only impossible but draws the attention of a pissy-faced nurse.
“None of that! Time to get you out of here, Mr. McGinnis,” she grumbled, catching up the reins of my trusty wheeled steed. “Once I get you to the door—”
“Cole!” Pierce Markham came through entrance, the whoosh of the doors throwing his tuxedo tails up as he walked. “Shit, are you okay?”
As one of the grooms and the one I knew, it was kind of a surprise to see Pierce here. Especially since he should have been on his way to the Bahamas. Or Alaska. I wasn’t exactly sure. Just not in Los Angeles. And sure as hell not hunting me down to a hospital.
“Yeah, I’m good.” I nudged Jae with my elbow before he could say something. “Man, why are you here?”
“Because they found the van.” Pierce gave Jae a tight, pleasant smile. “Everything’s gone.”
Not an auspicious start to a marriage. Grimacing, I said, “Dude, I’m sorry—”
“I don’t care about the gifts,” he cut me off. “They’ve got Sam.”
“Sam?” That wasn’t his husband’s name. And I didn’t think they were in a threesome. “Who the hell is Sam?”
“Our cat’s Sam.” Pierce shared a look with Jae, one of those exasperated glances I knew quite well. My friends and family were masters at it. “And I need you to get him back.”

Blurb
From the moment former LAPD detective Bobby Dawson spots Ichiro Tokugawa, he knows the man is trouble. And not just because the much younger Japanese inker is hot, complicated, and pushes every one of Bobby’s buttons. No, Ichi is trouble because he’s Cole McGinnis’s younger brother and off-limits in every possible way. And Bobby knows that even before Cole threatens to kill him for looking Ichi’s way. But despite his gut telling him Ichi is bad news, Bobby can’t stop looking… or wanting.
Ichi was never one to play by the rules. Growing up in Japan as his father’s heir, he’d been bound by every rule imaginable until he had enough and walked away from everything to become his own man. Los Angeles was supposed to be a brief pitstop before he moved on, but after connecting with his American half-brothers, it looks like a good city to call home for a while—if it weren’t for Bobby Dawson.
Bobby is definitely a love-them-and-leave-them type, a philosophy Ichi whole-heartedly agrees with. Family was as much of a relationship as Ichi was looking for, but something about the gruff and handsome Bobby Dawson that makes Ichi want more.
Much, much more.

About Rhys Ford
Rhys Ford was born and raised in Hawai’i then wandered off to see the world. After chewing through a pile of books, a lot of odd food, and a stray boyfriend or two, Rhys eventually landed in San Diego, which is a very nice place but seriously needs more rain.
Rhys admits to sharing the house with three cats of varying degrees of black fur and a ginger cairn terrorist. Rhys is also enslaved to the upkeep a 1979 Pontiac Firebird, a Toshiba laptop, and an overworked red coffee maker.
