Today I am so pleased to welcome Lane Hayes to Joyfully Jay. Lane has come to talk to us about her latest release, The Right Words. She has also brought along a great giveaway. Please join me in giving Lane a big welcome!

I love words. To quote Luke from The Right Words, “Yes, I was a sucker for beautiful words. Words of poetry, prose, literature. I was known to cry over songs lyrics and a well-said turn of phrase could bring me to my knees.” Same here! In everyday life, we aren’t as cognizant of our words as we perhaps should be. After all, we live in a virtual world where we’re proud of our ability to condense meaning into 140 characters or less. We sit at restaurants with friends and family with our cell phones glued to our hands. And when we’re pressed to come up with a way to convey a deeper measure of feeling, we aren’t always able to find “the right words”. (Sorry I couldn’t resist)

In The Right Words, Michael and Luke meet at a time when they’re each at their most vulnerable. Michael is healing from a potentially career ending injury and Luke is struggling to rebuild his life after escaping an abusive relationship. Neither is looking for love. They’re only focus is healing… physically and mentally to recapture who they once were. A world class soccer star and a respected interior designer, respectively. The two men couldn’t be more different if they tried but funny things happen when you least expect them. And as they forge a friendship while renovating Michael’s dilapidated beach house, it becomes apparent there is more between them than they bargained for.

Michael finds himself at a point where he is challenged to do something he never thought he would. Come out. Not only is he a star athlete in a sport that is popular world wide, he is a Latino man, where culturally, being gay isn’t as readily accepted. Words like courage and bravery take on a whole new meaning to a man who is accustomed to being tested on the soccer field.

Finding the right words is about knowing what to say when faced with adversity. It’s easy to keep quiet and hope someone else stands up to do the right thing.

The best words aren’t the easiest words to say. Every situation is different and what’s right for one situation won’t always apply to the next. But nothing worthwhile comes without a fight. And the right words.

Thank you so much for having me on your blog today, Jay!

Happy Reading!

The Right Words by Lane HayesEscaping an abusive relationship left Luke Preston anxious and spouting panic-induced poetry. Desperate for a fresh start, Luke accepts a job remodeling a tired old beach house for a professional soccer player and his model girlfriend. While his passion is literature, not sports, focusing on the renovations eases his anxiety. Until the job he signed up for turns out to be more complicated than advertised.

Sidelined with a serious injury, soccer star Michael Martinez decides his beach house is the perfect place to recuperate. Remodeling might be the diversion he needs to keep his mind off his busted knee. Falling for the pretty designer with some quirky habits wasn’t on the drawing board. Unfortunately, Luke didn’t build a big enough closet for Michael to hide in. Having a star-powered sports career used to be all Michael lived for, but he’ll have to reevaluate his plans and find the right words if he wants to build more than a beach house with Luke.
