If you read the excerpt you may wonder why I’ve only given you a paragraph. Well, it’s all about secrets, or rather the moment a secret becomes public.

Recently I had to keep a secret. A big one regarding myself. I was so shell-shocked it was really hard not to blurt it out to everyone, but I just told a few people because I needed the support. When I got good news (I’d been told I possibly had cancer but it’s just scar tissue – woohoo) then I was ready to tell the world. This was a matter of keeping quiet for a couple of weeks.

In Stolen Dreams Shae keeps a secret for five years. A real, devastating secret. I can’t imagine doing that. It would have weighed me down every single day.

I find it easier to keep someone else’s secret than my own. I hate having to hold things back. I’m part of a large family. Secrets are almost inevitable. Recently I discovered if I’d been open to one of my siblings it might have saved them a whole lot of anguish. I feel very guilty about that.

There are things that I don’t view as secrets per se. I don’t reveal family info on social media unless I have permission to do so. I keep my kids’ information private because they’d kill me if I posted photos or details. I view that as the difference between a private life and a professional life.

What do you feel about secrets? Have you had to keep a secret of your own? Or someone else’s secret? Do you find it easy to keep secrets?
