Today I am so pleased to welcome Z.A. Maxfield to Joyfully Jay. ZAM has come to talk to us about her latest release, Deep Desire. She has also brought along a great giveaway! Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

I want to thank Joyfully Jay for letting me share my thoughts about my Feb. 3rd release, Deep Desire, book one of The Deep Series.

What is this? A reprint?

…AND…

Why did I change the #*&% titles?

First of all: Relax. There is no truth to the rumor I did this to make everyone crazy.

Originally, when I envisioned a romantic vampire series that pits a cocky literature professor with an uncanny knack for sourcing old, valuable manuscripts, against the original Renaissance man, I was a newbie at this whole writing gig. I was stretching my boundaries, looking to write something paranormal. I figured I’d write vampires “my way”. In order to give them gravitas, I gave the books titles I took from the nightly offices of Catholic monastic life. I wasn’t trying to reinvent the wheel.

Or was I…

My vampires are more like visiting dignitaries with crabby attitudes and special dietary considerations. I should point out that when I wrote this, I’d never heard of Stephanie what’s-her-name. I very much enjoyed reading the reviews comparing my stories with THAT (nameless) vampire series, which went stratospheric at the same time my book came out. Yeah. I wish I’d written that one, from a purely I-have-to-put-my-kids-through-college point of view.

In Donte Fedelta I merely wanted to create a handsome Italian man in excellent hand tailored clothing who would knock my socks off, if I met him. And like my career as a writer, my sensibilities have evolved.

In the original novel, there was some of what I would now (as the mother of young adults) condemn as marginal consent. I had to re-think some of that. How much did I want Donte to “glamour” Adin? How much was dubious consent if not outright non-con?

It’s funny how things change. In the old days, I wouldn’t hesitate to write a scene where alcohol provides social lubrication (a state of mind which makes breaking out the actual lube easier). Now I’m less likely to let any of my characters begin a relationship under those circumstances. Is that because I’m old? I wonder.

Donte Fedelta paints, he sketches, he’s educated, witty, courtly and urbane. He’s the best product of the five hundred years he’s been alive, and he’s also a vampire, so he’s a predator. He’s the best of ALL worlds. A man who might eat you but who also knows exactly which wine to serve if he does.

These have been edited. They’ve been retitled. There are new, cool covers. They’ll be available simultaneously in ebook and print.

Vampire novels. Revamped.

Blurb

deep-desireAs the Indiana Jones of historical erotica, there is no document existing—or just rumored to exist—Adin Tredeger can’t unearth. Why he would risk the biggest coup of his career to join the mile-high club is beyond him. But the disarming, dark-eyed man who somehow enters Adin’s locked airplane washroom has him completely nude and coming apart. All without a whimper of protest.

From that moment, Adin and Donte Fedelta engage in an international battle of wit and cunning. The prize—a priceless, 500-year-old journal with illustrations so erotic it could make the Marquis de Sade blush.

Yet Donte’s desire for the journal goes far beyond simple possession. The undead nobleman wrote it. And he’s not above using every trick in his otherworldly arsenal—including seduction—to get it back.

Chemistry draws them together even as fortune tugs them apart. But when a third party joins the chase, they must unite to fight an enemy with a deadly goal—to erase Donte from history.

This book is a rerelease of a previously published book, with substantial rewrites.

Warning: This product contains one cocky college professor, one centuries-old vampire who is out to show him who’s at the top of the food chain, and red wine. Because it goes so well with humble pie.

Available from Samhain, Amazon, All Romance eBooks, and Goodreads.

Bio

AuthorPhotoZ.A. Maxfield started writing in 2007 on a dare from her children and never looked back.  Pathologically disorganized, and perennially optimistic, she writes as much as she can, reads as much as she dares, and enjoys her time with family and friends. Three things reverberate throughout all her stories: Unconditional love, redemption, and the belief that miracles happen when we least expect them.

If anyone asks her how a wife and mother of four can find time for a writing career, she’ll answer, “It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you give up housework.”
