Today I am so pleased to welcome Lisa Worrall to Joyfully Jay. Lisa has come to talk to us about her latest release, Un-Expected (Left at the Crossroads #1). She has also brought along a great tour wide giveaway.  Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Unexpected-BT

First of all I’d like to thank Jay for having me, today.

I never really know what to say, which is odd since I do talk a lot, mostly with the children and I may ramble, and possibly stray from the point so bear with me. Some of you may have seen my conversations with them on Facebook, so will be able to understand why I sometimes feel as though I’m trapped in some sort of weird American teenage comedy show – see what I mean about straying?

Un-Expected was a story I’d been fiddling with for a while as a standalone. I’d been wanting to do a story set in a quiet English country village, the kind where everyone knows everyone’s business. The male midwife idea had been bugging me too, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone as it were. But then my bestie, Sue Brown, contacted me and said she wanted to write a series with me, set in the UK. Of course I said yes and suggested that the midwife story I was working on be the first one. She agreed and off we went. Left at the Crossroads was born. I’d co-written before so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little apprehensive, because Sue and I have quite different styles and I wondered how we were going to pull it off – for about three seconds when she said that we’d write a book each as I was already part way into Un-Expected.

I had a blast creating Micah, his mum and the village they’ve lived in forever. I kind of had a Miss Marple-esque idea going on, and wanted to show that, although it was a country village and sometimes the image is one of just letting life tick by, that’s not the case in Little Mowbury. Everyone has their secrets and their insecurities, even Doris Abernathy, the Post Mistress, who seems to know everyone else’s! To find out what they are, you’ll have to visit Little Mowbury. If you get lost, just ask for directions, everyone will tell you… it’s Left at the Crossroads.

Blurb

CoverLittle Mowbury is a sleepy English village deep in the Cotswolds. The kind of village where you’re only a local if your lineage can be traced back to the dinosaurs. Where you can find everything in the single shop from morning newspapers to dry-cleaning, and getting your shoes mended. And, of course, where everybody knows everybody else’s business. It’s easy to find… you can’t miss it… just ask anyone and they’ll tell you… “It’s left at the crossroads.”

After being dumped on graduation day by the love of his life, Harry Boyd, Micah Lewis returned to the sleepy village he grew up in. Living next door to his mother wasn’t his best idea, granted, but when your heart was broken, there really was no place like home.

Six years later, secure and content in his job as midwife for a local birthing centre, the last person he expected to move into Lilac Cottage across the street from him was Harry Boyd. Seeing Harry again sends Micah into a tailspin and opens wounds he thought had long since healed. Although, Harry himself isn’t the only issue Micah has to face. That would be Harry’s very beautiful and very pregnant partner, Selena. But is everything as it seems?

Bio

I live in Southend-on-Sea, a small seaside town just outside London on the South East coast of Essex, England that boasts the longest pier in the world; where I am ordered around by two precocious children and a dog who thinks she’s the boss of me. I’ve been writing seriously for three years now and love giving voice to the characters warring to be heard in my head, and am currently petitioning for more hours in the day, because I never seem to have enough of them.
