Today I am so pleased to welcome RJ Scott to Joyfully Jay. RJ has come to talk to us about her latest release, The Summer House. She has also brought along a great giveaway to share. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!
I was on the lookout for the perfect Cotswolds village, but every one I saw I realised there was something not quite right for the village I had in mind as being Upper Fordham in The Summer House.
Then, on the way back from a Roman Villa we found Yanworth. “…a small rural parish located in the county of Gloucestershire, population 112 at the 2011 census… the village itself is part of the Stowell Park estate owned by Lord (Sam) Vestey. St Michael’s church is set apart from the village and dates to about 1200…”
Perfect. It has one main street, a post box set into a stone wall, and a row of workers cottages. It is quiet, with a bus stop, and a bend in the road where I imagined a pub could sit (which became the Wychwood pub in the book).
And all of a sudden Ash became real to me. I had Connor the Veterinarian in my head from day one, but Ash was elusive. What kind of family did he come from, what kind of man was he. Then I read about Yanworth being part of a huge estate from a incredibly rich family and I had the Sterling-Haynes family created. Three brothers, with Ashby, or Ash for short, the youngest and the only one without a happy life and a solid career.
So, just by finding a village I found one of my heroes. Oh, and my church with its roof in need of repair ?
That was a good day.
Blurb
Ashby Sebastian Sterling-Haynes has had a lot of boyfriends, but he’s never found the one.
The only person he can form an attachment to is his fourteen year old niece, and even that is in jeopardy when babysitting her cat goes all kinds of wrong.
Veterinarian, Connor Lawson is much happier working with animals than with people. He has deliberately returned home and to the Summer House he recalled from childhood holidays for peace and quiet and the chance to heal from wounds no one would ever see.
When his next door neighbor comes into the practice with a cat that has been in a fight he hides in his office because this Ashby guy is all kinds of dangerous. Too hot, too rich, too titled, and way too sexy for his own good.
Can two men who refuse to believe in love ever learn that love is the easy part of the journey to forever?
Bio
RJ Scott has been writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
As an avid reader herself, she can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror. However, her first real true love will always be the world of romance where she takes cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and writes dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men.
With over seventy titles to her name and counting, she is the author of the award winning book, The Christmas Throwaway. She is also known for the Texas series charting the lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.
Her goal is to write stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.

I’m currently The Summer House, I’m really enjoying it
I love RJ Scott and have this one on the top of my wishlist. I would love a free copy. Thanks for including me.
Reading this will make the book even better. Thanks!
Oops – just saw that I’m supposed to leave a comment about series or standalone. Very wishy washy on this – I like stand alones but always want a book about any good secondary characters. So I guess I like series with stand alone books.
Series Vs. Standalone depends on how invested in the characters…some characters demand a story and others, well, not so much.
I adore series, simply because I hate leaving characters or a world I’ve grown to love behind. Either way though, The Summer House sounds good!
I’ve always wanted to go to the Cotswolds, sigh!
I want to be there, anywhere in the British Isle would work for me!
What a fun post!
I like both standalone books and those that are in series. With a series, one can get more (and more) of a good thing.
Another one for my TBR list. I love RJ Scott’s books!
I prefer series, but it can be the same core group with different people as a focus.
