Today I am so pleased to welcome B.A. Tortuga to Joyfully Jay. B.A. is here as part of the Coastal Magic Convention Blog Tour to chat with us today. She has also brought along…. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Lord have mercy, you know how rare it is that I just get to natter on about whatever the hell I want to?

Seriously, usually I’m pimping a book (and god knows, I got those to dance about, thank God for small favors, go see batortuga.com for all the feels because BOOKS!), but today I’m just here to jabber on like a newborn fool.

I spend most of my time with my wife.

coastal magic 16Wait, have y’all met her?

My girl is Julia Talbot and, I swear, she’s magic made flesh. She’s a writer and a painter and a passing good singer and I love her more than life, and I love my life a lot.

At any rate, I spend my days with her and our basset hounds. We write 4 days a week. Well, okay, we write 7 days a week, but we have no TV, no phone calls, no distraction, head-to-keyboard writing days Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesdays are for writing business – edits and blog posts and promotion and web sites and self pubs. The stuff that’s easy to forget about, you know? Our Saturday mornings are for plotting and organizing and coffee. Sundays are simply ours.

It’s a simple life, a good life. Julia and I are lovers, best friends, business partners and constant companions. All my friends are virtual. My best friend lives in Canada, my editors live in the UK and New York, and my good soul-twin lives in Florida. I don’t ever feel like I’m not getting to visit with folks, but sometimes I need real live, in-person hugs.

Two years ago, we were supposed to be at Coastal Magic in Tampa. I had promises of hugs with Kiernan Kelly and Amy Lane, my sister Kristi Boulware, Damon Suede and Jennifer Morris. I had HUGS promised, dammit!

We got to the airport in the middle of the worst ice storm Albuquerque has seen in twenty years and we sit.

We sit for 3 hours in the airport to get to Dallas.

We sit for another 1 ½ hours on the tarmac.

Our flight from DFW to Tampa is cancelled and the next one isn’t for 36 hours.

Thankfully the ABQ flight crew let us off the plane (honestly, I think they were tired of watching the vein in my forehead pop out in pure, unadulterated rage).

Not so thankfully, we didn’t get to go to the con.

THAT SUCKED.

In 2016?

We’re booking through Houston.

Hell, I might make Kiernan Kelly and Butch come get us if the flights get horked.

I’m looking forward to visiting with Kiernan and Butch, with Sean Michael and Damon Suede, with TC Blue and… EVERYONE.

I will need every single hug and plot bunny and weird meta discussion and chatter and coffee and every ounce of love I can get before we head back to the mountains and the bassets and the quail. (Did I tell y’all there were quail under our deck? Quail. OMG, the absolute cuteness of Daddy and Momma Quail with the eight little babies doodly dooing around. Squee)

Also, I intend to unveil gorgeous swag. I have zero idea what that swag will be, because, hello, attention span of a caffeinated gnat on crack, but it will be epic. Or Coastal Magic-ic.

Okay, now business stuff. Hang with me.

Excellent.

I do hope all y’all are having the best life. Come say hi when you get a chance, huh? I love to visit.

Much love, y’all!

Bio

basturtleTexan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds and her beloved wife, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the  high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.
