Today I am so pleased to welcome Larissa Ione to Joyfully Jay. Larissa has come to talk to us about her latest release, Base Instinctsar. This is the first m/m book in her long running Demonica series and I really loved it. She has also brought along a great giveaway. Please join me in giving Larissa a big welcome!
Hi everyone!
Today I want to talk about the everlasting, non-ending series. Why? Because I love them, but I know a lot of people who don’t, and I get that. I admit, there are some series that lose steam after a while, and I’ve quit a few because of that. Plus, a series with a gazillion books makes it hard to find a place to start. Picking up the first book when there are twenty that come after it can be daunting.
On the other hand, when I find a series I love (be it in the form of books, TV shows, or movies), I want to stay in that world indefinitely. Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, for example, is one that I never want to leave. In fact, since I haven’t read the final 4 books, I’ve started over from the beginning and am currently immersed in his amazing fantasy world. I want to be an Aes Sedai, dammit! (Yellow or Green Ajah, I think, but Brown would be pretty cool, too, since I love reading and research.)
My love of the long-running series has carried over to my own books, which is why my Demonica/Lords of Deliverance series has continued as long as it has. Oh, the original, main arc came to an explosive conclusion in REVENANT, but there are still so many stories to tell (including Raze and Slake’s story in my new release, Base Instincts.)
So for those of you who enjoy hanging out in a world for as long as you can, I hope you enjoy the universe I created, because it will continue. In fact, a new chapter will start soon, with the kids of the original cast all grown up. But in the meantime, I hope you enjoy Base Instincts and the tales that follow.
I’m curious – are you a fan of the long-running series, or do you prefer a shorter format, like trilogies? I’d love to know!
And don’t forget to enter the giveaway! Thanks for coming out and playing with us today!
Blurb
As a Seminus demon, Raze’s life literally depends on having sex with females. The problem is that he doesn’t desire females, and it’s physically impossible for him to be with males. Thankfully, he and his best friend, Fayle, have an arrangement that keeps him alive . . . if lonely. He finds some solace in his work as a medic at Thirst, a vampire club known for its rough clientele. But his carefully structured world turns upside down when he meets a mysterious male who makes him want what he can never have.
Slake is an assassin used to getting what he wants, and what he wants is Raze. But he also wants to earn back the soul he sold when he was a much different demon. All he has to do is capture a runaway succubus named Fayle and hand her over to her family. What he doesn’t count on is being caught himself by a web of lies—and his attraction to Raze.
Raze and Slake must navigate a dangerous world to be together. But as Fayle’s jealousy of their relationship turns deadly, they find themselves embroiled in a battle not only for their love, but their lives and souls.

I really like series, as long as they keep a consistent line. There are series that just go on forever and somehow miss their original point. But as long as they mantain a coherent plot, I enjoy them a lot. I love reading about the characters I like, and how the stories from past books intertwine with the following ones.

Hi Susana! That’s exactly how I feel about them, as well. You summed it up! Thanks for posting!
I love a well done standalone book, a well done trilogy or a well done series. (Now I’m starting to want a well done steak!) If an author has the skill, I can enjoy any of her or his books. A long running series can be fun because I get to know the characters and the world better and better as time goes on.
I really like series! And this one is one of my favorite series out there. Love your books Larissa Ione!!
I usually go for shorter series, but it depends. I think if there are good side characters who can get standalone volumes, a series can go on for quite a while.

This series is one of my all time favorite because Ione knows how to keep a series running smooth without losing the original plot. I recommend this series as a must read to all the people who ask for book advice and out of 25 people only one didn’t care for it. I hope Ione plans on making this series and sub series go on for a bit longer because I do not want it to end anytime soon!

I love never-ending series….as long as the story remains fresh & new. I stopped one series because it became all about the sex scenes & very little about the story….love the Demonica world! Keep it coming!
I love long running series! Once I get into a series, I never want it to end so knowing I have a new book to look forward to is awesome! The Demonica and LOD series are two of my favorites! Thank you for the chance at such an awesome giveaway and for such amazing books! 🙂
I love reading series. It’s like meeting friends again after a while and learning how they’ve grown and evolved. And when they are as well written as the Demonica / LOD, I never want to leave them behind ^_^

I never want a great book to end and that is why I love series! With an amazing author like Larissa I never want the series to end! She always comes up with great new material, strong characters & awesome new adventures!!!
Oh! I am so happy that this book is out 😀
I love series, as long as they stay interesting and don’t get to the point that each book is the same. The Demonica series is a GREAT one!!! Every story is wonderful. The world building is amazing, lots of different characters including humans, demons of various types, angels of different types including fallen and unfallen, shifters, vampires, and so much more! Even Hellhounds! I love that the series centers around family–whether by blood or by choice. I have already bought my copy of this book and can’t wait to dive in!

Depends from the story,I love to read series in which each book is for one couple.
I love Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon 🙂

I thought I had commented, but I don’t see it posted, so I’m trying again. Sorry if this is a duplicate.
I love both, but I think I’m a bit more partial to long running series. I love to read about the other characters we meet throughout the books (if the books are well written, which the Demonica/LoD sure are!).
I like a series as long as there’s an overarching plot or something to be solved — if it’s just revisiting the world, that gets old for me. But yes, Wheel of Time! I haven’t reread that in forever.
There are many series that I Can read again and again and some that have run their course and need to end.
MORE MORE MORE!!! ^_^ I will never get tired of this series! Lol Once i get hooked on a great series I never want it to end!
In chapter 3 right now; OMG!! Larissa, this is so good!! 🙂
Congrats on the new genre in writing! 🙂 it’s done very well.
Back to my reading!! 🙂
I love these books, especially revenant I wanted to cry when I was reading it and the horseman omg! Keep up the awesome work and keep those books coming.
Larissa, I’m a huge fan of series. My favorite is the kind that follows the same characters, but I love the ones built around a town or work or something in common. One of my favorite (non-romance) series is on book 21, and the author keeps it fresh and doesn’t let you get bored of the characters. Another I stopped reading is probably around there, too, but I had to stop reading because it was just the same book over and over. I mean, I can do that for a few books (they are the same people after all, with a bit more experience), but I have to feel like the journey is worth it. I haven’t read your series at all, but it sounds great! Thank you for the post and giveaway!

I’ve loved what I’ve read from the series so far and can’t wait for this one. I have notice authors are starting to branch out from the normal f/m and exploring different relationships. It’s amazing how and where imagination can take you.
I love books. It depends on the author on how long I will stick with a series. I have noticed that some start to get a little repetitive after a while. Stand alone books usually leave me wanting to know what happens next. Trilogies are better in that respect. I own several long running series by various authors, some manage to keep things fresh and or interesting better than others. If I like the author and his or her world, I care about the characters and remain interested in what happens next.
As a stay at home mom of two life gets boring for me very fast, and thank god for these books. She is my top favorite author right now, along with Gena Showalter. I personally love long running series , my heart breaks when my favorite thing ends. The only time I will accept a book ending is if the ending is needed and wonderful or when I die, until that day I demand fantastic endings or neverending stories.
Please do not break my Heart Larissa. Keep me wanting.
I like long series but I don’t really know abut never-ending ones, lol. I like it better for manga than novels though so I guess it depends on what I’m reading.
As long as a series stays true to the story, is believable I am happy to keep reading. (in as much as this genre can be! You know what i mean…i don’t want to be scratching my head going, “Now wait a tick-that’s just stupid!”) If it’s a good series, i loooove that it doesn’t end completely. Some story lines end, others start-ebb and flow. If it starts strong and then the stupid kicks in, i get angry that i won’t see how it ends and that i wasted my time because i will kick it to the curb quick. Everyone has a not so fabulous book now and again (they ALL can’t be Reaver’s book!) But two bad ones in a row and i’m done. Happy to say i am still rabid for the Demonica series! Keep ’em comin’, Larissa!??
prefer short series

I really don’t mind long-running series, especially if so-called series are from authors like you, who can keep the world they created fresh and interesting. But I do know some non-ending series which at the beginning were great, but with time became repetitive. I guess it all depends on the creativity of the author. Which is why you’re one of my favorites, I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of Demonica books, so keep them coming!!

I am all about a good series! I love finding out how a character develops and immersing myself in their world. The Demonica series is addictive and each book offers a new character to focus on, which means each works as a stand alone novel also.
Larissa Ione’s Demonica series was one of the first PNR series I read and got me hooked on it!! Looking forward to reading this bo0k as well 😀

If I was able to afford buying book after book of a gazillion series I wouldn’t mind. But I can’t. So, I’d rather read a thrillogy instead.
