Today I am so pleased to welcome Lex Chase back to Joyfully Jay. Lex has come to talk to us about her latest release, Bayou Fairy Tale. She has also brought along a great giveaway.  Please join me in giving Lex a big welcome!

Hello everyone! I’m Lex Chase and I want to thank Jay for having me here today on the Bayou Fairy Tale Blog Tour! The woman is a damned superhero. So can we give it up for her?

Bayou Fairy Tale is the (*coughcough* long overdue *cough*) sequel to Americana Fairy Tale and tells the story of fuck-up fairy tale princess dude Taylor Hatfield and his true love a jackass redneck huntsman by the name of Corentin Devereaux. They learned that Happily Ever After doesn’t come with a road map. If you want it, get in the fucking car and drive. You’ll meet some interesting characters on the way, that’s for sure.

In the case of Bayou, we meet a whole cavalcade of new Enchants and learn of a mysterious organization called the Library. They are a counter-terrorist organization monitoring Enchants and witches and deploy measures against those that become threats via “editing” and sometimes “revision.” Trust me. Editing and revision in the Library and among Enchants don’t have the same perfectly benign meaning like it does to us.

One of the Library agents is Gabrielle, a witch with a past and decided to use her magic to fight the good fight. She’s seriously my favorite. She’s incredibly shy, withdrawn, and skittish. Largely because she doesn’t understand most Enchants, and she also doesn’t speak English save a few words. As a witch, she speaks Curse Word, which is where witches speak backward. She does have bits of dialogue in the book, and I really, really wanted to see if DSP could print the text in those parts†actually backward for readers to hold it up to a mirror. I have also heard if I did that, there would be angry mobs on my doorstep. So. Um. No.

And like all fairy tale characters, she has a curse. Hers is to burst into flame every seven days and be reborn from the ash. You’d be withdrawn too if you spontaneously combusted. As the days pass, her extremities start to char and get coated with a layer of ash. Luckily for her, the poor girl doesn’t even feel it anymore. Similarly sad, she doesn’t have much of a sense of touch at all either.

My cosplayer, Mae Wynn Talley, if you remember from cosplaying Taylor here on the Beach Read Bonanza, also loves Gabrielle. So the rest was history and she was quite thankful she didn’t have to bind her chest! Please enjoy the fruits of our costuming labors! Also with a very special cameo of a certain item readers might remember from Americana Fairy Tale!

We hope you enjoyed the shoot and learning about Gabrielle as much as I loved writing the sweet girl.

And speaking of costumes! Halloween is coming! Tell me, what was your favorite costume as a kid? Why did you love it? Leave me a comment and record your entry on the giveaway widget!

Modern day fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One: he’s a guy. Two: he’s Sleeping Beauty, the most useless princess in existence. Throw in his true love, Corentin Devereaux, a huntsman descended from child-eating witches, and Taylor’s younger brother, Atticus—this generation’s Snow White—who tried to kill him. That didn’t go so hot.

For two years, Taylor and Corentin live their Happily Ever After. But Corentin is cursed to lose his memory every seven days, including his life with Taylor—a painful reminder that he can’t provide for the man he loves. Taylor insists Corentin has the strength to succeed, and when Taylor discovers a way to break the curse, he is more than willing to pay the cost.

When an enchanted blizzard devastates Corentin’s hometown of New Orleans, Taylor is convinced Atticus is to blame and grows desperate to find him amid the Big Easy turned frozen wasteland. Corentin believes Taylor is chasing a ghost while he chases the ghosts of his own past. Old tensions scratch open scars, leaving both to wonder if they have each other’s best interests at heart. The clock is ticking until Corentin loses his memory and the rabbit hole goes so deep they may never come out.

Bio

Lex Chase once heard Stephen King say in a commercial, ìWeíre all going to die, Iím just trying to make it a little more interesting.î Now, sheís on a mission to make the world a hell of a lot more interesting.

Weaving tales of cinematic, sweeping adventureóand depending on how she feels that dayóLex sprinkles in high-speed chases, shower scenes, and more explosions than a Hollywood blockbuster. Her pride is in telling stories of men who kiss as much as they kick ass. If youíre going to march into the depths of hell, it better be beside the one you love.

Lex is a pop culture diva, her DVR is constantly backlogged, and unapologetically loved the ending of Lost. She wouldnít last five minutes without technology in the event of the apocalypse and has nightmares about refusing to leave her cats behind.

She is grateful for and humbled by all the readers. She knows very well she wouldnít be here if it wasnít for them and welcomes feedback.
