Foxe Hunt is the second book in the Skyler Foxe series and is a continuation of the first book Foxe Tail. As a result, this review may contain spoilers and the books must be read in order.

Following the events in Foxe Tail, where Skyler helped solve the murder of Wesley Sherman Jr., Skyler is still intent on solving who pushed Julia Meyers down the stairs leaving her in a coma. Julia had warned Styler repeatedly to be wary of Keith Fletcher, but never gave a reason. Best friend and police detective Sidney is also curious about Fletcher for the simple fact that his background check was a bit too clean, and had noticeable gaps in it.

Rumors of grade fixing are running rampant through the school and Biology teacher and assistant coach Keith Fletcher is accessing Principal Sherman’s computer in the middle of the night. Could Skyler’s new love interest have a sinister side? Could Skyler’s meddling put him in danger, yet again? One thing is for certain, Styler won’t rest until the truth comes out, regardless of the risks to himself.

throwback thursdayWhat a great continuation to the series. Having solved one crime in the first book while leaving other threads open, the author expands on them in Foxe Hunt.  I will admit that I am not a fan of mysteries, but the cover art for Foxe Tail was the reason I bought the book, and boy, am I glad. Walsh has crafted a murder mystery that satisfies and has a good sense of continuity from the first book to the second. The result is a cohesive storyline with a “To be continued” that does not frustrate the reader.

The characters remained constant, both in terms of their depth and likability. As in the first book, Walsh struck a good balance between Skyler and Keith’s budding relationship and the secondary characters who are so integral to the layers of the story, adding just the right amount of realism to the story while never being overpowering or distracting. I like how Walsh has gradually shifted Skyler’s man-whore ways to one that wants a deeper relationship, and the fact that Keith is not pressuring Skyler to renounce his slutty ways, but rather letting Skyler know what he will and won’t accept was endearing.

I have a pretty good idea of where things are going with Skyler and Keith. I am also pretty sure that my suspicions about Keith’s sudden appearance in Redlands will also come to pass, but I said similar in the first book and was pleasantly surprised when I was proven wrong.

There is not much else to say about Foxe Hunt without giving too much away, and so I will just say that I am extremely pleased with the series and will continue to review the remaining books with glee. Now I mentioned the cover art earlier and although the model was attractive, it was the clean-cut vibe of the entire cover that caught my eye.
