Today I am so pleased to welcome TC Blue to Joyfully Jay. TC is joining us as part of theย Coastal Magic Convention blog tour. She is alsoย talking to us about her upcomingย book,ย Black of Nigh. She has also brought along anย exclusive excerpt from the book, as well as a giveaway. ย Please join me in giving TCย a big welcome!

ย

Heyla, all, and thanks for joining me today on the amazing Joyfully Jay’s blog, where I’m going to tell you about me, my stories, and Coastal Magic! If you’re not familiar with Coastal Magic, but you love romance — more specifically, paranormal romance — you should absolutely check it out! (http://coastalmagicconvention.com/)

coastal magic 16My name is TC Blue, and I write gay romance. It’s been two years since my last full length novel. (Wow, that sounds like I’m at a support meeting, doesn’t it? Heh-heh.) During that time, I’ve had a few “short” stories in the Butt-thology books — Butt Pirates in Space, Butt Ninjas from Hell, Butt Babes in Boyland, Butt Riders on the Range, and coming soon, Butt Villains on Vacation! (Yes, they’re very tongue-in-cheek, no pun intended. Haha!)

I do have a brand new novel releasing soon from Torquere Books, and it’s been a very long time coming. (Did that sound slightly dirty to anyone else? No, just me? Well, allllrighty, then.) It’s called Black of Night and is something of a prequel to my Conventions series, telling the story of two rather mysterious secondary characters.

This new book, Black of Night, is one of my first forays into writing PNR, which brings us back to Coastal Magic. (See what I did there? Oh, yeah, I’m smooth! Heh.)

Coastal Magic is one of my favorite events. I’ve never attended as an author before, but I’ve been at every one of them, aside from last year’s. What it is, is a good time. The focus is primarily on paranormal romance (PNR), which has always been amazing for me because that’s one of the genres I love to read. Hetero (straight) or homo (gay), I love PNR. I love seeing how different authors put their own spin on myth and legend, sometimes turning expectations upside down. And I love all of it. Vampires. Werewolves. Zombies (yes, there really is zombie romance, which is way less squicky than it might seem). Ghosts and witches and the full gamut of Fae beasties. Dragons and demons and shifters, oh my!

At Coastal Magic, I’m like a kid in a candy store with my allowance clutched tightly in my hand, getting big-eyed when the candymakers themselves want to tell me about their confections. Except, you know, with books and authors and stories.

It’s not the biggest event out there, but it’s one of the best I’ve ever attended, and I can’t even begin to tell you guys how excited I am to be an official guest author this time! I mean, I was already looking forward to going, but to be there as an author? Yeah, I’m about as chuffed as chuffed can be.

I’m even more excited (if that’s even possible) that Black of Night will be releasing just in time for the event.

As I said before, it’s a prequel to a series of mine (the Conventions series is also published by Torquere), and in case you can’t tell, I’m in that happy-nervous-anticipating mood about it. It’s a bit different from my previous books, what with the paranormal aspects, but I’m really looking forward to peoples’ reactions, whatever they may be. And I’m thrilled that Coastal Magic will be the first event I’m attending after the release.

Okay, I’m going to stop now, which is a good thing. As anyone who’s met me knows, I can go on and on and on and on andโ€ฆ You get the drift. Haha!

Thanks for hanging out with me today, and just to show my appreciation, how about we do a drawing?

Because I’ve mentioned the Black of Night so many times, and it’s a prequel of sorts to the Conventions series, I think I’d like to offer up the three stories (two novellas and one novel) to one lucky winner — that’s Conventional Wisdom, Conventional Education, and Unconventional — in the winners choice of .pdf, epub, or prc.

And I also think I’m going to give you guys a little, exclusive peek at Black of Night, too.

Many thanks to Jay (who is indeed Joyful) for having me today, and I hope you all have a great day (or night) wherever you may be!

Excerpt

Hell, what the fuck was happening to him? It was bad enough that heโ€™d been so distracted by Rory in the first place, but talking to him like they were friends or something? That was just too bizarre for Matthew to believe. And yet it had happened. He remembered every moment of it. What heโ€™d said, too.

โ€œIโ€™m writing a book?โ€ he muttered to himself, disgusted to the depths of his being with his own words. โ€œMight as well have claimed to be a fucking trapeze artist. And he believed me. Damn.โ€ Rory had, too. Heโ€™d been able to see it in the way those green eyes had started shining with what Matthew really hoped wasnโ€™t renewed interestโ€ฆ assuming renewed was the right word when Matthew wasnโ€™t sure the kidโ€™s initial attraction had faded in the first place.

It probably hadnโ€™t, because it had only been slightly more than a day since the not so subtle threat of legal action, and now Matthew had gone and fucked it up.

Maybe Rory wouldnโ€™t read anything into their little talk, though. Maybe the kid would forget all about it and they could go on with business as usual. But Matthew somehow doubted it. Hell, a small part of him even hoped for the return of Roryโ€™s earlier teasing.

The worst, most wrong part of it all was that Matthew actually liked the kid. More since their little chat over coffee. Rory was well spoken and polite, and the things heโ€™d said about a personโ€™s worth being separate from what they didโ€”or had done, Matthew interpretedโ€”were encouraging. Matthew could actually see himself possibly rethinking his position on getting involved with humans at some point down the road. If Rory were the human in question, anyway, and that was just โ€œWrong,โ€ he groaned.

So very, very wrong. Exceptโ€ฆ no. He wasnโ€™t ready to think about that yet. Wasnโ€™t going to. There was no way Matthew was prepared to acknowledge that heโ€™d tried to access Roryโ€™s surface thoughts while heโ€™d held that pale hand against the tabletop, because heโ€™d receivedโ€ฆ nothing. Just the sensation of smooth, hot skin beneath his palm.

No thoughts, no emotions, not even a stray sense of the kidโ€™s psyche lurking just out of reach. Just nothing. It wasโ€ฆ unexpected. Disturbing. Enticing.

What would it be like, Matthew wondered, to touch that pale skin, all over. To taste it. To lose himself in the sensation of Rory surrounding him, riding his cock, writhing on and under him, and feel nothing but the pleasures of the flesh? To have no worries that his own mind would be flooded by Roryโ€™s secrets and fears and regrets? To be able to simply enjoy the heat, the undoubtedly overwhelming feeling of that human heart racing faster and faster as Matthew plunged deepโ€ฆ And to know, without a shadow of a doubt, that when he bit the kidโ€”because he wouldโ€”he wouldnโ€™t have to fight the impulse to end Rory. To end him so the words and images in Roryโ€™s mind wouldnโ€™t drag him down. What would it be like to know that there would be no such need, no fear of Matthew losing himself to Roryโ€™s mind?

Jareth had told him, that night so long ago, that the deep memories held by humansโ€”the things having sex with them made his and Matthew’s kind unknowingly shareโ€”werenโ€™t so horrible to the humans in question. That those things were familiar to each one and because they colored and edited their own pasts, their own experiences, they were able to cope and ignore and pretend to forget.

To their kind, Jareth had said, meaning to himself and Matthew and the rest, those things took on a different hue. Infected them, to some degree. All humans had some darkness inside. They simply werenโ€™t able to embrace it, and that separation between what humans chose to believe of themselves and what Matthewโ€™s kind saw and knew to be the truth was what led to the draining, no matter that it wasnโ€™t intentional most times.

It had taken centuries of trying for Jareth to learn to separate his rational mind from the kill-impulse, and Matthew hadnโ€™t been around anything like long enough to make that sort of effort. Hadnโ€™t cared to bother in the years heโ€™d had, either, though Jareth had tried to warn him that some day Matthew would miss the warmth, the heat and energy of humans, enough that heโ€™d want to. Matthew hadnโ€™t believed it then, but he was finally afraid Jareth might have been right. Heโ€™d never heard of a human who couldnโ€™t be accessed, but that was a concern for later because he turned onto his street, feet moving quickly on the sidewalk as he tried to hold himself to a reasonable pace no matter how badly he wanted to be inside, out of the sun that was starting to make his skin itch abominably.

Bio

TC BlueContrary to popular opinion, TC Blue was not raised by wolves. Nor did she spring, fully formed, from the forehead of a god, instead entering the world in the usual manner.

A true jack of all trades and master of none (otherwise known as flighty and unable to make a decision and stick with it), she currently resides near the east coast where she does her best to avoid politics and religions as a general rule.

TC can usually be found sitting in front of her computer, trying to wrangle rabid and numerous plot bunnies, though her muses insist that she not be too hard on the poor little fluffy things. (Poor little fluffy things with sharp teeth and claws, but whatever. Muses donโ€™t seem to care much about the possible bloodshed if the bunnies think TC’s not writing quickly enough.)

One thing sure to calm the bunnies is hearing from readers, so please feel free to contact TC at tcblue@live.com or stalk her: on Twitter — @tc_blue. On Facebook — T.C. Blue.
