Bring on the Season by Kenzie Cade
Hey guys! Thanks for stopping by and thanks to JJ for having me!
So here in my home state, we don’t really see a lot of changes in the seasons. We kind of drift from one extreme to the next, Summer to Winter and Winter to Summer with a few weeks pause in between for what most of you would probably consider Spring and Fall, although the temps here aren’t consistently Spring-y or Fall-ish.
I happen to be part of the minority here when it comes to my love for the cold and winter, but I have so many reasons to love it. So in Dave Letterman fashion, I’m going to count down the reasons why the winter season is my favorite (although I’m only gonna do five).
5. Winter is flannel pajama season. To be fair, I could really just say comfy pajama season. I love pajamas. We even have a family tradition where we get new pajamas on Christmas Eve. I love comfy.
4. The Princess Bride. Okay, so I know this is not a wintertime/holiday movie, but to my family and me it always has been—at least since I was five. One Christmas, long long ago, my uncle wanted to rent a video (yep, as in VHS) and took my cousins and I to Blockbuster (it was a really long time ago) and there, we rented The Princess Bride. For some reason, every year afterward, we watched that movie on Christmas day. I still do. I love Buttercup and Wesley. I mostly love Inigo and his passion and determination—also because he’s a genius.
3. Hot Chocolate. I love it, and I won’t lie. If it’s between me making Peppermint Hot Chocolate and going to Starbucks, Starbucks wins every time. They’re awesome. Although I do have a stash of hot chocolate recipes that I love and have to make because I can’t find them anywhere. Like white chocolate pumpkin spice with Kahlúa. Yum. Just sayin.
2. Holiday stories. I love, love, love the new stories that come out as the season begins every year. There’s just something about winter and romance that goes so perfectly together. The cold weather and warm feelings (or sizzling sheets) just mix. Something about the season makes happy endings so much sweeter.
1. Snow, ice, and fireplaces. Like I said earlier, my opinion of Winter is not the majority response in my area, but I love the snow. I even like the ice, but that’s more for selfish reasons. I especially like when it gets so cold outside that I have no choice but to use my fireplace. Winter makes the perfect setting (and reason) to curl up and read a book—which I do often.
As you can see, I have much love for this time of year. Tell me your favorite things about the Winter season.

Dashing von Stride has one thing on his mind: winning the window display contest for the Miracle on Main Christmas Contest. His plans are set and ready—and then he walks into his toy store, Reindeer Games, to find a sleigh that shouldn’t be there. The mystery sleigh sparks a new plan, however, and now all Dash needs is the perfect Santa to model his display after.
This year, the pranks with his reindeer have gotten out of hand. Instead of preparing for the Big Day, Niklaus Kringle is hunting for his missing sleigh. Locating it should have been easy, but games easily won are seldom worth playing…

LOL! I understand why you love winter. I do share your love for hot chocolate, flannel pajamas, holidays stories and fireplaces when it is snowing outside… But you must recognise that there are good things in summer as well, like long afternoons reading under a tree or nice walks on the beach in a summer night… That’s why I love summer as well!
Thank you for the giveaway. Reindeer Games sounds really good! 😉
Ugh, susana… no… I mean long afternoons under a tree in my neck of the woods is ridiculously humid and sweat-stained (gross… I know… I live in that world)… and my beaches have briars, so no. But you world sound like a dream… if I could live without the humidity and… humidity, I might like it better 🙂 Ergo, my love for Winter. 🙂
I share your love of hot chocolate and of stories. And, interestingly, I recently read The Princess Bride for the first time. It was interesting to see how it was similar to and how it differed from the movie.
I like having an excuse to cook all the rich stuff everybody looks askance at you for the rest of the year. And hot chocolate and stories FTW!
I love to draw the curtains, get the fire lit, have a glass of wine or fiery liqueur and a great book or three!
OMG! fiery liqueur sounds fab!
Sounds like such a fun book…and I LOVE hot chocolate!
I love these holiday stories!
My favorite thing about winter is how quiet it is when it snows. Everything seems so peaceful and the freshly fallen snow is beautiful!
Thanks for the post. Reindeer Games sounds like a fun read and the cover is too cute.
I also live in a state without a lot of seasonal change (at least to people who don’t live here). But I do not like extreme cold. We still drink hot chocolate and have fires in the winter because to us when it is 30 degrees for a low, that IS cold. 🙂
Reindeer Games sounds like a very fun read! Where I live there isn’t a lot of seasonal change either. No fireplace but would love one! Hot chocolate or hot tea is a must. And the soups that I make are so good but nobody likes that in the summer!
While I love curling up in front of a fire in my comfy pjs with a good book and some hot chocolate, my favorite part of winter is when it’s over. Can’t wait to read your book.
I love the snow when it first falls before the cars make it dirty. It always looks so magical.
Winter is my least favorite season although this one hasn’t been so bad so far 🙂
I love reading Christmas stories for many reasons including the snow. This may be because we don’t get any snow here and even if we did, our Christmas lands in the Summer heat so the two would never coincide. I have been able to replicate 5 to 2 (in fact I had a luke warm hot chocolate last night) by cranking the AC to icy. Of number 1, I have ice in my drink right now but get the others from 2 – reading tonnes of Christmas stories.

Pajamas and fuzzy blankets are the best reasons for winter. I love snuggling with a good book or a favorite movie. If only I didn’t have to drive to work in snow, I’d be all for winter. 😀
I love the festive atmosphere, the lights/decorations, music and food. Also, I love reading holiday stories too.
Sounds like an interesting read. I live in an area where I get to experience all four seasons…I do like certain routines I only get to do in the winter.
I live in the desert, and winter here just means we get the kind of weather that I think everyone else would think of as fall. Since I am the biggest wimp in the cold, I appreciate this very much! I love our mild winters. I heard a great thing on the radio today, “if you can’t handle our summers, you don’t deserve our winters.” A little jab at the influx of ‘snowbirds’ we get here. I’m not the only one who loves our version of winter. 🙂 Thanks for sharing all your winter fun and the chance at Reindeer Games!
Please count me in. Thanks.
Thank you for the chance!!!
