Today I am so pleased to welcome Kate Lowell to Joyfully Jay. Kate has come to talk to us about her new release, Nuts About You (Nutty Romances #1). She has also brought along a furry giveaway! Please join me in giving Kate a big welcome!
I never intended to write this story. I was in the middle of a book that would turn out to be nearly 100,000 words and I had a ‘submit by’ date staring me down from the not too distant future. Which is, of course, when I would get completely blocked.
I struggled with it for a week and got nowhere. I was frustrated and cranky, and Mr. Lowell was getting that look in his eyes like he was thinking about moving in with the cows. So, to break the block, I thought I’d take a different plot bunny out for a test drive. You know, get a few thousand words down, rev the engine a bit, that sort of thing.
I had seen this call for unusual shifters and, by that point in time, I was feeling a little punchy. Soo instead of following along with the call suggestions of dragons and griffins, I thought, “What’s the silliest shifter you could ever come up with?”
And that’s how Nathan was born.
It seemed natural to give him a job in a place where the main products for sale were nuts and seeds–after all, he’d be an expert, right? And then Vince came along, and I really didn’t have to do much more–the boys wrote their story themselves.
I don’t think Vince is ever going to live down the shoe, though.
Nuts About You comes out January 7. You can find it at the following places:
Keep your eyes open for the sequel to Nuts About You, called Rise of the Alpha Squirrel, coming in February!
Nathan’s been crushing on one of his regular Bulk Mart customers for a while now. In squirrel form, he sits on Vince’s bird feeders, munching on seeds and enjoying the eye candy. Until the day Vince notices him raiding the feeder…
Kate Lowell lives on the east coast of Canada, in an old farm house that has way more personality than it has any right to. During the winter, she spends her time dreading snow, cursing at snow, shoveling snow, and scheming ways to shove it down the kids’ necks. During the summer, she prays not to have snow. 🙂
Kate likes to play in ALL the sandboxes. While her main genres are paranormal and contemporary suspense, she is also interested in science fiction, fantasy and–weirdly–romantic comedy. She’s willing to pay large amounts of money to anyone who can come up with plot-bunny repellent, which she will first use on herself, then sell to LA Witt for an exorbitant price to recoup her costs.
You can contact her at katelowellbooks (at) gmail.com. If you think you’d like to try writing gay romance, come visit her critique group (Link can be found at http://katelowell.com). New members are always welcome.
