Maitland Carter and Lenny Fritz are lifelong friends and partners in a rather unique business. They’re pet detectives. Lose your dog? Call them! Gerbil run away? Call them! Wayward gila monster? They’re your men!

This is how our story begins. Mait and Lenny have, literally, just hung their shingle when a beautiful woman comes in to ask them to find her missing gila monster. For those who aren’t in the know, a gila monster is a big, venomous lizard. She swears her ex-husband has stolen him, and she wants him back.

Desperate for the cash, they agree to take her case. It’s added to an agenda that also includes a lost gerbil (they’re illegal in California, so that makes it a big problem), a little boy’s lost dog, and an escaped, mangy, and very foul mouthed African Gray parrot.

I don’t want to give away much more of the story because what follows is one of the most hil-freaking-arious romps I’ve ever read. Mait and Lenny are the perfect foils for each other. As I mentioned, they’ve been friends, and sometimes lovers, since they were twelve years old. In fact, they took each other’s virginity. They are sexy as hell together, and at the beginning, they were sleeping together because neither had a boyfriend, and well…men have needs. Somewhere along the line, they realize they’re in love, and that makes their relationship even deeper. They have insane chemistry. They can’t keep their hands off each other, and their sex scenes are both Kindle and panty melting. Mait and Lenny are magical both in and out of bed.

Two Pet Dicks is a genuine and compelling mystery. It’s not just the fluff between sex scenes. Inman has written a well thought out and interesting story with twists and turns that left me guessing. In the end, I figured it out before the big reveal, but even then, the author didn’t let go. Usually we find out whodunit, and the book is over, but not here. Someone needs revenge, and they’re prepared to go all out to get it.

The book has some great background characters…a panicky drag queen, an unpleasant parrot owner, and adorable little boy, and a sixteen-year-old young man who is convinced he should be involved in business and a ménage with Mait and Lenny. There is also the aforementioned beautiful woman with the missing gila monster and her ex-husband, who is awesome, by the way. I think my very favorite character after Mait and Lenny, though, is the foul mouthed, mangy parrot. He swears enough to make sailors blush, and he’s smart enough to evade capture several times. Two words…hen house.

The story has a very satisfying ending, and I was sorry to see it go. With a lot of books written for laughs, you tend to get something that is not funny at all, or something that feels like it’s trying too hard. Two Pet Dicks was the perfect balance. I read this in bed, and I woke my husband several times because I was laughing so hard. I absolutely loved this book, and if sexy humor is your thing, you must read it!
