After a while, Marcus closed the book and looked at his phone. He raised his eyebrows in surprise. It had been two hours. Even though he was warm, the book was good, and the night air was not too cool, his muscles were getting stiff so he stood. He had heard the occasional howl and excited yip as the time went on, and he raised his eyes and saw the moon glowing brightly.

Marcus took a deep breath; it was settling. He understood how the wolves felt its pull.

Marcus shrugged the blanket around his shoulders. He didn’t need the flashlight to walk as the moon was so bright. He put the phone in his pants pocket and set off. It wasn’t accident that took him east of the river. He wanted to see his wolves. They’d better not be shredding a rabbit with their teeth or something gross though…

Marcus strode out confidently. The ground was fairly even, and his thoughts immediately turned to his operation and the trip. He would be leaving tomorrow. Was he doing the right thing? Half of him desperately wanted to go, half of him desperately wanted to stay.

Marcus stopped as he heard a howl. It wasn’t Conner, definitely. He didn’t think it had as much power in it as the Alpha. He wondered if it was one of his mates. He was immediately disappointed, though because he realized he ought to recognize them.

Another howl, a little closer this time, and a different wolf. Marcus kept half an eye on the ground as he neared the trees, and wondered how far in realistically he could go. He inhaled and just smelled trees and wet earth. What he wouldn’t do to become a wolf.

Marcus stopped as a sudden fierce longing took him by surprise. It wasn’t possible of course, but it was a good dream.

Marcus heard a howl a little nearer and carefully negotiated a few tree roots and fallen logs. It was dark and he wished he’d brought the flashlight, but he could see a clearing just up ahead, and the moon shone brightly down.

Marcus tripped. Fuck. He heard rustling up ahead, and cursed. He just managed to stay upright. He didn’t want any of them to see him on his ass. He took another few cautious steps and got to the clearing. There were a few overturned logs and Marcus sank down on one gratefully. He fixed a smile on his face as the bushes moved in front of him and a dark chocolate brown wolf padded out. Marcus tried not to frown. It wasn’t one of his mates, and Blaze had said all the others had to keep this area clear. He had done that for Nate so he wouldn’t be overwhelmed. Maybe it was lost?

Marcus nearly laughed as the ridiculous thought formed in his mind. Wolves didn’t get lost. They were expert trackers. He cleared his throat. He ought to start acting more Alpha-like even if he had no clue who the fuck he was talking to. He’d never seen Jed, Ben, or even Stephen turn into their wolves.

“You’re going to have to cut me a break here, buddy,” Marcus called out. “I have no clue who you are.” The laugh died in Marcus’ throat when the wolf’s lips curled upwards, showing its teeth. Okay, so that wasn’t too good. Maybe he’d offended one of his wolves by not knowing who it was.

The bushes rustled slightly and two more wolves padded silently out, standing on either side of the dark brown one. One was a caramel color, and one had a tan face with a dark stripe. It wasn’t Kellan, though — the stripe didn’t meet his eye.

“Sorry guys, you’re going to have to give me a clue,” Marcus tried joking. Then he lurched to his feet, deciding he had better be standing. The caramel colored wolf took a step forward and bared its teeth on a snarl.

Cold streaked down Marcus’ spine and settled in his gut. This wasn’t someone pissed off because he didn’t recognize them. This was someone threatening, and they weren’t lost. That knowledge settled in his gut also. He quickly glanced around for a weapon. Shit, there wasn’t even so much as a tree branch he could use.

Marcus braced his legs a little farther apart. There was absolutely no point in even attempting to run. A human couldn’t outrun a wolf, and he certainly had no chance.

The chocolate one took two steps forward. Marcus could see its hackles raise as a snarl tore from its throat.

The Dilemma by Victoria SueMarcus has just become the only human ever to be Alpha of a werewolf pack and thwarted the plans of Anubis to destroy the goddess Sirius’ creation – the werewolves.

Now, Anubis has decided to focus his efforts instead on Marcus and his new pack, to try and destroy the pack from within. In order to do this, Anubis seeks the one thing Marcus wants above all else and when he finds it, will use that to get him to walk away from his lovers and the pack.

Unaware of the evil god’s plans, Marcus works together with Kellan and Ricoh, not only trying to help Nate recover from the vicious torture he has undergone at the hands of the terrorist group, The Winter Circle, but to also come to terms with leading a pack of over two thousand wolves.

Marcus soon will be faced with a dilemma, but will he give everything up for his mates and the pack or will the temptation Anubis offers him be too much for one human to refuse? Will Marcus put his wolves before himself or will he be tricked into leaving them behind forever?

Bio

Victoria Sue has loved books for as long as she can remember. Books were always what pocket money went on and what usually Father Christmas brought. When she ran out of her kids’ adventure stories, she would go raid her mom’s. By the age of eight she was devouring classics like Little Women, and fell in love with love stories.

She especially loves writing gay romance because as far as she’s concerned the only thing better than one hot guy, is two of them.
