Wyatt Parker has made a decent life for himself. He owns his own business and his own house, and makes home-cooked meals for himself, but sitting down to watch the foodie network gets to be more than a little lonely. When Wyatt learns about an upcoming reality show where the winner gets to become the personal chef for Wyatt’s favorite rock star, Wyatt jumps at the chance.

Tully Randolph is the drummer for the band Unusual Potatoes. Growing up with a mom who was a chef, the love of good food runs in his family. When he’s asked to host a cooking competition, he’s all in – especially after he meets Wyatt.

Wyatt has a heart as big as he is and wows Tully with his home cooking. As the contest heats up, the sparks between Tully and Wyatt could drum Wyatt out of the competition and out of Tully’s life. All the ingredients for a happy future are there in front of them if they can figure out how to put it all together.

It is only fair for me to disclose that I am a complete closet junkie for cooking shows and one of my guilty pleasures is reality television – so when I saw this book and saw that it combined two of my favorite things, I just had to have it. Let me just say, it did not disappoint! This book was a mixture of Big Brother, Hell’s Kitchen, Chopped, Iron Chef, and Rock Band all rolled into one for a delightful and decadent read.

Like with most reality shows, I always tend to root for the underdog – and Wyatt is the runt in this show’s lineup. Older and heavier than the rest of the contestants, no one is really expecting Wyatt to win this thing as his value is in providing entertainment while the real chefs in the competition compete. But we all know the saying that you never trust a skinny chef – and Wyatt isn’t skinny by any means. With a job in construction and a healthy appetite, Wyatt isn’t going to walking down any runways in his future.

Tully hasn’t had much of an appetite for a while. With his bandmates pushing him to hire a chef, the opportunity from the foodie network is ideal. What he wasn’t expecting was to find his ideal bear of a man standing there ready, willing, and able to cook him up some good old southern cooked meals. Unfortunately, any fraternizing with the contestants would send Wyatt home faster than a three minute egg can cook. Yet, when Wyatt starts winning competitions, Tully finds the two of them thrown together and realizes that Tully not only would make his perfect chef, but his perfect mate.

As the competition heats up, the show’s host, the producers, and the other contestants try to get Wyatt chopped from the show! Readers will find themselves going from laughing at their antics to wanting to throw rotten tomatoes on the bunch. Thankfully, Tully has his bandmates who seek to see him happy!

My one complaint about this book was that a lot of it focused on the competition and the behind the scenes with the contestants, and I would have liked to have seen more of the relationship building between Tully and Wyatt.

Despite my one complaint, I loved this book because it fed right into my guilty pleasures in life. If you love reality tv, food network shows, or are just looking for a fun book to read, you’ve got to check this one out. Highly recommend.
