Dirty Laundry is my favorite of the Tucker Springs stories so I was really excited to see it come available in audio, especially with one of my favorite narrators, Iggy Toma. I love how the story combines the vulnerabilities of both Adam and Denver with a wicked, sexy kink that gives us both steamy and sweet at the same time. I love the opposites attract connection with Adam as the geeky grad student studying bugs, and Denver as the big, hulking bouncer. Cullinan does a great job showing how both of these men have insecurities and anxieties about themselves and how, with the support of one another, they are able to grow in confidence and begin to move forward.
I reread my original review from back in 2013 and my feelings about the book still stand, so I’m going to send you over there to learn more about the story and read my review.
As I said, Iggy Toma is one of my favorite narrators and I think he does a really nice job here. Toma captures that uncertainty and anxiety in both of these men, particularly Adam. I love the way he embodies the characters and really brings them to life. The tone and pacing are great and the audio is easy to listen to and enjoy. My only complaint is that Toma seems to fall in and out of the Denver’s southern twang, and when it wanes, Denver tends to have a bit too much of a jolly St. Nick sound for me. It made him sound at times like an older man and pulled me out of the story, especially at the beginning as I was getting used to it. That said, I don’t think you can go wrong with the book in either format and it was definitely an audio book that kept my attention from beginning to end.
I enjoyed reading this book some time ago; I may need to revisit it. Cullinan has written some wonderful books, and I’m realizing now that mental illness features in several of them. I thought that Carry the Ocean was phenomenal.
Oh me too! One of my favorites of hers. Did you hear that a new Jeremey and Emmett book is in the works? Can’t wait!
I’d seen that another book in the Carry the Ocean/Roosevelt series was forthcoming but I was assuming it would feature a different couple. I’d certainly enjoy reading more about Jeremey and Emmet.
I think she still plans on another book with new characters, but we are getting Emmett and Jeremey again first
