Frat Boy & Toppy is one of my favorite new adult, college romances. I originally read it almost four years ago, when it was first released, and it remains near the top of my list. So I was super excited to see that it was released in audio, especially with one of my favorite narrators, Nick J. Russo.

throwback thursdayI think what I like best here is the dynamic between these two characters. Both are good guys, kind and caring. Brad is desperately trying to figure himself out and Sebastian is there to guide him along his way. The story is crazy sexy, but there is also a sweetness and a tenderness here. I particularly like that although Brad is the big, hulking jock, Sebastian is very much the titular toppy and really leads things in their relationship. I went back to check out my original review and I pretty much still agree with everything I said there, so check out my ebook review for more detail on the story itself, as well as my thoughts on the book.

As I mentioned, I am a big fan of Nick J. Russo’s narration and he does another excellent job here. He captures these characters so perfectly, in particular Brad’s earnestness and bit of anxiety, and Sebastian’s smooth confidence. And holy cow, does Sebastian have a sexy voice! Russo gets him just right and the sound of his voice fits perfectly with the way Sebastian’s lines are written in the story. Russo also does well with the female characters, in particular Brad’s friend Ashley. Women are often tricky with male narrators, and Russo manages to make her sound feminine without the forced falsetto we often get. The pacing is good, the tone is spot on, and Russo just navigates the story so well. He continues to be one of my favorite narrators and one I highly recommend.

So overall it was really a pleasure to revisit this story in audio form. Frat Boy and Toppy continues to be a favorite and the audio is an excellent addition. I would definintely recommend this book in either form.

P.S. The cover has changed since the original release, so this one is different than on my earlier review.
