I absolutely adored Fish Stick Fridays when I read it last year, so much so that it made my list of Best of 2015. For me it is a perfect blend of mystery and romance. The connection between Lang and Deacon is amazing. They are so romantic and sexy and with some opposites attract coming together to form the perfect package. I adored both of these guys and loved them together, and their relationship grows organically, but also with intensity thoughout the book. It balances nicely with the mystery side of things as Lang, Deacon, and Deacon’s niece Zig face an unknown threat that could be coming from any of their complicated pasts. Listening to the audiobook, I was reminded why I love it so much. You can check out my original review here with a full overview of the story and my thoughts.

Listening to this in audio was also a treat as narrator Spencer Goss does a fabulous job with the book. First off, the guys’ voices are perfect matches for their characters. Deacon has a deep, rolling (and sexy) voice that fits him so completely, while Lang is a bit more prim and controlled. Goss really captures their personalities with his narration and brings the men to life. Zig’s voice is well done, though not perfect. But honestly, no grown man is going to narrate an 8-year-old girl in a voice that sounds perfectly natural. At times it is a little awkward, especially at the beginning before I got used to it, but overall it works well and is all I would expect given the difficulty of doing her voice. Goss does get her sass and attitude just right though and that is what is most important. We have several recurring side characters and again Goss does a nice job with their voices, making them distinct rather than interchangeable (and having some fun with accents). So overall the voices are quite well done.

Everything else flows nicely. Good pacing, good tone, and a nice flow flow to the story. I found this one worked great in audio and really affirmed for me how much I enjoyed the original story. I think you could easily enjoy this book in either print or audio format and I would highly recommend it in either. I am a huge fan of Rhys Ford’s writing and would recommend her to anyone, and this story is one of my favorites.
