Hello, all! Thank you so much for joining us here at Joyfully Jay for the next stop on the Smoke & Mirrors blog tour, celebrating the release of the 7th book in the THIRDS series. Today we’ve got Dex and Sloane in the hot seat, and they’re going to be attempting to a few reader questions, so here we go.

Charlie: Hi, fellas. Welcome, and thank you for joining us. Some of the THIRDS Nerds have some questions for you. I hope you’re ready.

Dex: I was born ready.

Sloane: You’re not exactly filling me with confidence. What do you mean you hope we’re ready?

Charlie: How do you picture your lives with little Dexes and Sloanes around. Sloane, how would you feel if the children behave just like Dex? How about like Sloane?

Sloane: *panicked* I’m not ready!

Dex: Relax, babe. *soothes Sloane* Breathe. It’s just a rhetorical question. No one’s having any babies.

Sloane: *glares at Charlie* You couldn’t have started off with something a little easier, like pets or favorite color? You had to right to the kids?

Charlie: *laughs* It’s not my fault. They wanna know how you feel about kids.

Dex: I love kids, though I don’t know if I’d want them to behave exactly like either one of us. I think they should be encouraged to be who they are. Also, I don’t know that either one of us would survive another me in the house. I exhaust myself sometimes.

Sloane: *chuckles* Yeah, and I think I do enough brooding for the both of us, so we don’t need to have a little one brooding too. I know Dex would make a great dad. I’m not great with kids. Quite frankly, I have a habit of making them cry just by standing there. I have no idea why. Well, mostly babies do. Kids tend to latch on to me, and that confuses me too. I’m not approachable like Dex, yet they seem to gravitate towards me. I never know what to do, so I always try to nudge them in Dex or Cael’s direction.

Dex: Literally. He literally nudges them. I swear it’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.  You ain’t seen nothing until you see a six and half foot jaguar Therian in full tactical gear nudging a kid that weighs less than his vest. And they always refuse to budge. They just stare up at him with big wide eyes.

Sloane: I swear it’s like they suddenly gain fifty pounds when you’re trying to move them.

Charlie: Okay, let’s move onto the next question before Sloane passes out. He’s looking a little pale. Do you think you will always be partners in the job? Do you think being partners makes you better or worse at what you do considering the mark/bond?

Sloane: There’s no one else I’d want to be partnered up with.

Dex: Aw, he’s such a cutie. I have to agree. I trust my teammates, and I’m happy to partner up with them whenever it’s necessary, but permanently, there’s no one like Sloane. Because of our bond, a lot of the time we don’t even have to communicate verbally to understand what the other’s thinking.

Sloane: We trust each other fully, and next to Ash, there’s no one I know better. And yes, the bond makes it so we can sense things in each other. Plus, there’s an added layer of responsibility. He’s my mate, and I’ll do everything in my power to make sure he stays alive. There are very few others who I trust enough to have his back. No one can protect him like I can.

Charlie: Okay, next question. This one’s for Sloane. Do you ever think about Gabe?

Sloane: Wow. Um…

Dex: *pats his leg reassuringly* It’s okay.

Sloane: Occasionally, yeah, I do. Not because I wish we were together, because I can’t imagine being with anyone isn’t Dex, but because he deserved so much more than he got. He was a good man, and should have had a chance at a happy life. Sometimes I think of what it would be like if he were here, part of our family. I think Gabe would have really liked Dex. *squeezes Dex’s hand*

Charlie: For Sloane: how many times have you snuck out and eaten empanadas behind Dex’s back then cooked him healthy food for dinner. Knowing that you totally ate unhealthy food a few hours earlier?

Sloane: *gasps* Who told you that?

Dex: *gapes at Sloane* Oh my God, you do that! Wait, so those days when you go out for a jog, are you actually going out for a jog?

Sloane: *sniffs* Of course I go out for a jog.

Dex: And do you stop anywhere on your jog?

Sloane: ….

Dex: *exaggerated gasp* You scoundrel!

Sloane: I’m sorry! I can’t help it. There’s this little Cuban bakery that opened around the corner that makes fresh empanadas, and I…. *hangs his head in shame* I’m weak.

Dex: *crosses his arms over his chest* I can’t believe you.

Sloane: I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.

Dex: *huffs* I’m not mad that you didn’t tell me, I’m mad that you didn’t bring me back anything!

Sloane: Oh. So… if I bring you back something tasty does that mean I can still have empanadas?

Dex: You have to bring me back a whole load of something tasty to make up for this deception first then I expect a tasty treat on every subsequent empanada run.

Sloane: I promise. *kisses Dex’s cheek* I love you.

Dex: I know. I’m magnanimous that way. I love you too.

Charlie: Okay, last question. What’s your favorite thing about living with the other one? And your least.

Sloane: I love waking up to him every morning and going to bed with him in my arms. I get to kiss him whenever I want.

Dex: Aw, you’re so sweet. I’m not forgetting the empanadas though. You have some major making up to do for that.

Sloane: Yes, dear.

Dex: My favorite thing is all the stupid little domestic things he does. I know, it sounds cheesy, but every time I see him take out the trash, or do laundry, it makes it all seem more real that he’s there with me, to stay, that we’re in this together, in our house.

Sloane: Now, I’m not complaining, because I understand it’s all part of who he is and I would never change that, but sometimes his organizing drives me crazy. For example, I’ll put the groceries away, and then he’ll come in later and rearrange everything, which is fine, but I always ask him first if he wants me to put the groceries away because we both know what will come later. It’s the same with the laundry. I’ll fold up his clothes and then he’ll unfold them and fold them up again because he has a system.

Dex: I like to be able to see what’s on the front of my T-shirts, and for that they need to be folded a certain way. It’s all very logical. And I ask you so you can get an idea of where things go.

Sloane: Which I would if you didn’t rearrange the kitchen cabinets and the pantry every month. The moment I think I’ve got it memorized, he’s changed it.

Dex: Sloane pees in the shower.

Sloane: *gapes at him* I can’t believe you just said that.

Dex: It’s gross, babe.”

Sloane: It’s a shower! I run the water afterwards, and I only do it when you’re using the toilet and I can’t hold it anymore. You take forever in the bathroom.

Dex: *nods* This is true, but I have needs, Sloane. Bathroom needs.

Sloane: Your bathroom needs shouldn’t take that long.

Dex: They do when someone swaps your delicious gummy bears for sugar free ones.

Sloane: Oh my God, that was one time! How many times do I have to say I’m sorry? I didn’t know.

Dex: Really? Because like fifty people left reviews about it.

Sloane: I thought it was a joke! I’m so, so very sorry. You know I love you, and I would never, ever, do something like that to you on purpose.

Dex: *pouts* I know. You know what would make me feel better?

Sloane: You name it. Anything.

Dex: A trip to the bakery.

Sloane: Done. *gets up and takes Dex’s hand* We gotta go. My partner is in need of baked goods, and I like a good boyfriend, I aim to please.

Charlie: I’m sure it has nothing to do with empanadas.

Sloane: I’m not going to dignify that with a response.

Dex: He’s totally going to eat his weight in empanadas. *sighs lovingly* That’s my man.
