Today I am so pleased to welcome Lane Hayes to Joyfully Jay. Lane is here as part of the GRL Blog Tour  to talk to us about her latest release, A Kind of Honesty. She has also brought along a great giveaway. Please join me in giving Lane a big welcome!

Kansas City, home of the World Series winning Royals, numerous jazz heritage museums, world class barbeque, and … GRL! I can’t wait! This will be my first actual visit to KC and though I’m usually quick to scout out noteworthy sights and fabulous restaurants in any new-to-me town, I’m just excited to see some of my favorite faces and meet new people who love LGBTQ romance as much as I do. For me, it’s all about the people.

GRL tourMy road to discovering this genre put GRL on my map years ago. I’m a lifelong romance reader who began to wonder if there was such a thing as MM romance when my son, who was a teenager at the time, came out to his dad and me. I’m a firm believer that there is an HEA out there for everyone. But when it comes to my children, I won’t settle for less or allow them to think they should. I did my research and lo and behold, I hit the jackpot. I found my online oasis.

I have to admit, it took me a couple more years to work up the courage to attend GRL. When I did finally go, it was as a reader in Chicago. My first three books had been released and were well received, but I didn’t think I was ready to bump elbows at a table alongside some of my MM author idols. These guys were legit! They spun beautiful tales about heartache and longing in a way that made me want to order every book in their catalog and wish Real Life would shut the hell up until I finished the next chapter. Or maybe the one after. Was I worthy of author status?

It turns out the answer was yes. But it had less to do with writing and everything to do with a shared love and respect of LGBTQ issues, books and romance. Nothing can replace the joy of physically sitting next to someone whose eyes literally light up when they talk about how much they love and appreciate these books, whether they’re a fellow author or a reader. The fans who will happily line up to discuss their favorite characters and why these books touch them…these are my people! Of course I belong! I can talk for hours about MM romance and never get bored. And the idea of catching up with friends I’ve met in Chicago, San Diego or meeting new Facebook buddies for the first time…absolutely priceless.

Years have passed since I first discovered MM and GRL and a lot has changed for me during that time. My tenth book, A Kind of Honesty, the third book in the A Kind of Stories series will be released on October 7, along with It Was Always You (Oct.4). The latter is an anthology I participated in with six amazing fellow MM authors (all proceeds will go to One N Ten, an LGBTQ Youth charity). My son is now a well-adjusted, out gay man living in San Francisco, and with ten novels and a number of short stories under my belt, I’m a full-time author writing what I love in a way I hope celebrates him and others like him.

See you in Kansas City!

A Kind of Honesty

Music is drummer Tim Chalmers’s great escape and the one thing that’s never let him down. But his band Spiral’s meteoric rise to fame has made it difficult for him to maintain a low profile. Unwanted press pesters him after a public breakup with a volatile ex-girlfriend who loves the limelight as much as he loathes it. Tim’s main goal is to avoid confrontation. However, when a handsome stranger in a dive bar turns out to be someone he might know, everything changes.

Carter Hamilton-Temple might be a successful financial consultant with more brains, sophistication, and charm than most, but he always falls for the wrong guys: closet cases or men with issues. He can’t fight his attraction to tattooed rock star Tim, but can he trust his own judgment? When the thrill of danger combined with a fierce physical connection proves too strong for either man to resist, a quiet liaison away from the public eye and curious friends seems like a safe bet. But some secrets are hard to keep. When rumors threaten to rock his world, Tim realizes it’s time to confront his fear with his own kind of honesty.

Lane Hayes is grateful to finally be doing what she loves best. Writing full-time! It’s no secret Lane loves a good romance novel. An avid reader from an early age, she has always been drawn to well-told love story with beautifully written characters. These days she prefers the leading roles to both be men. Lane discovered the M/M genre a few years ago and was instantly hooked. Her debut novel was a 2013 Rainbow Award finalist and subsequent books have received Honorable Mentions in the 2014 and 2015 Rainbow Awards. She loves red wine, chocolate and travel (in no particular order). Lane lives in Southern California with her amazing husband in an almost empty nest.
