Today I am so pleased to welcome Layla Reyne to Joyfully Jay. Layla has come to talk to us about her latest release, Single Malt, the first book in the Agents Irish & Whiskey series (which I reviewed here and loved). She has also brought along a really fun giveaway! Please join me in giving Layla a big welcome!
What appeals to the author about writing romantic suspense?
I love reading and writing romantic suspense because it’s a genre in which, generally, the plot and romance are more equally balanced. The number one reason I lose interest in a book is lack of plot. I NEED it, and plotless wonders are the antithesis of romantic suspense. The mystery, case or chase—and the adrenaline that comes with each—drive the romance. The ratcheted up stakes create an amped up romance that keeps me on the edge of my seat, reading (or writing) all night long. I also love fast cars, though unfortunately have a penchant for blowing them up in my stories. The cars, and the explosions, obviously fit better in romantic suspense!
Future plans for the series?
Agents Irish and Whiskey is a continuation series, meaning Aidan and Jamie are the lead protagonists in all three books. There’s also a series-long investigation into the murders of Aidan’s late husband and his former partner, which case comes to a head in Book 3, Barrel Proof. Before we get there, though, Aidan and Jamie investigate a series of hacks on a biocontainment facility in Single Malt, then an identity theft case that puts Jamie’s basketball star past front and center in Cask Strength. Throughout AIW, professional and personal conflicts abound, as Aidan pushes love away for fear of another loss, and Jamie, twelve-years his junior, considers what he really wants out of life—and who. Aidan and Jamie must fight a whole host of outside forces—and each other—before they reach their happily ever after.
Eight months after the car crash that changed everything, FBI agent Aidan Talley is back at work. New department, new case and a new partner. Smart, athletic and handsome, Jameson Walker is twelve years his junior. Even if Aidan was ready to move on—and he’s not—Jamie is off-limits.
Jamie’s lusted after Aidan for three years, and the chance to work with San Francisco’s top agent directly is too good to pass up. Aidan is prickly—to put it mildly—but a growing cyber threat soon proves Jamie’s skills invaluable.
Jamie’s talents paint a target on his back, and Aidan is determined to protect him. But with hack after hack threatening a high-security bio-containment facility, time is running out to thwart a deadly terrorist attack. They’ll have to filter out distractions, on the case and in their partnership, to identify the real enemy, solve the case and save thousands of lives, including their own.
2016 RWA® Golden Heart® Finalist, Layla Reyne, was raised in North Carolina but now calls San Francisco home. She enjoys weaving her bi-coastal experiences into her stories, along with adrenaline fueled suspense and heart pounding romance. When she’s not writing stories to excite her readers, she downloads too many books, watches too much television, and cooks too much food with her scientist husband, much to the delight of their smushed-face, leftover-loving dogs.
