Jake has a temp job for two weeks and his new boss is hotter than hot. Jake can’t stop staring at Cal and is pretty sure his interest is obvious. To his delight, it seems like Cal shares the attraction, so one night after work and some drinks, Jake gets up the nerve to make his move. Cal lets Jake know he is definitely interested, but that nothing can happen while Jake still works for him. With another week to go, waiting is torture, but it is all worth it in the end when the guys have a hot night together.
An Invitation is a sexy short story that was originally published as part of the Dreampsinner Press Juicy Bits anthology and has now been released on its own with no major changes. I liked the set up here (I am a sucker for the boss/employee dynamic) and the sex scene at the end is nicely done with a bit of spanking kink. I’ll admit, I was hoping for a little more for the lead up to the big event though in terms of the sexual anticipation. We know that Jake definitely wants Cal, but there wasn’t quite the heat level in the build up I was expecting from an erotic short. This story is definitely on the shorter end (I was able to read it in about 15 minutes) and that may have been part of the issue. I think as part of an anthology the shorter length may have been less obvious, but here it felt like not quite enough lead in before the ultimate sex scene. The waiting and flirting and teasing part is fairly short and most of the book is the culminating scene when the guys finally get together.
That said, this is a fun and sexy read. Northcote writes great heat and captures that yearning and desire well. So if you are looking for a quick read with an erotic spin, An Invitation is worth checking out.
