Today I am so pleased to welcome Julia Talbot to Joyfully Jay. Julia has come to talk to us about her latest release, Packmate for Hire. She has also brought along a book to give away.  Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Hey y’all!

I’m Julia Talbot, and I’m here to talk about Packmate For Hire, which is the second book in my Alpha Tales series.

Okay, so I have to tell you. When I stared this series, I had a plan to write unrelated stories of different wolfpack alphas. Then I got to this town… this tiny town in the Colorado mountains, which doesn’t even have a name. Most of their adult males werewolves were lost fighting a terrible wildfire and their alpha sucked and…

Along came Rand as an accidental Alpha, and his mate Tate. They’re in An Alpha in Sheep’s Clothing, which is book one. Then Brendan and Shon popped up for book two. I have a feeling there are way more stories about this silly town and their now-growing wolfpack, and that makes me smile.

I love it when stories surprise me like this one did. Sure, sometimes it’s a PITA to change gears and write a totally different story than you expected, but it stretches me as an author. It excites me, gets the creative juices flowing.

Shon made me snortgiggle the moment he showed up on the page. He’s an author, and he writes werewolf suspense books, a lot of them based on his life experiences. This fact gets him into trouble more often than not, and when Packmate starts is no exception. As the writer, I knew Shon was in trouble and on the run, but I pantsed this story a little. I had no idea who he was on the run from until halfway through.

Brendan, on the other hand, was solid as a rock from the get go. He knew who he was and where he was going until he got derailed by meeting up with his old pack mate Rand. Then he met Shon, and boom. He wasn’t sure he needed a mate, though, and he told me this repeatedly. Good thing I’m persistent…

Is it crazy to feel like your muses actually talk to you? Yeah? Oops.

I guess what I’m trying to get across is every story has its twists and turns, even if you plot rather than pants. Then every once in awhile, a story comes along that completely surprises you.

That was me with Packmate for Hire.

I hope you’ll check it out.

Packmate for HireBrendan Gray has no idea why he stopped in at a tiny Colorado mountain town to have lunch. He’s supposed to be in Wyoming, tracking wolves. The place called to him, though, and he figures out why when he realizes his old pack mate, Rand, is now an Alpha in the cutest little wolf pack ever. Then he meets Shon, who’s also just passing through, and decides he might need to stay for a bit. especially since Rand seems willing to pay him to be a pack guardian.

Shon has a history of making bad decisions and is on the run from his most recent one when he meets Brendan. They’re smoking hot together, but Shon wants to go slowly so they can get to know each other. He decides to hang around in Nowheresville for a while. and he hopes Brendan is staying for his benefit. Trouble follows Shon everywhere, though, and between that and Brendan’s uncertainty about their relationship, they might just lose each other before they know what they have.
