Arctic Restitution Blog Tour

When the Ex is a Crime Boss

Some exes fade away easily with time. Once things are over, they’re history. Maybe you run into them now and then, and it’s awkward. Maybe there’s some strained small talk. No big deal. For the person who used to date them, and for the current lover, the ex isn’t someone who interferes too much in their current lives.
The polar opposite of this situation is dished out in my new release, Arctic Restitution. Simply put, the ex is a nightmare.

He’s a crime boss named Cash doing hard time for a laundry list of offenses. He doesn’t let go of what he wants. He builds his life around the notion that debts need to be paid, no matter what. He’s got an entire network of felons inside and outside of prison ready and willing to do his bidding when it comes to tasks he can’t logistically handle himself. And when it comes to the crime boss’s former boyfriend—young Jaye Larson, who agreed to become physical and sexual property of Cash in exchange for protection—there is nothing in Cash that intends to let Jaye go if there’s any way to prevent it. A bad case of unrequited love keeps Cash from moving on.

Luckily, Jaye can hold his own—mentally, physically, sexually and practically. He knows what’s important, what he wants, what he needs, and just how far he’s willing to go in the name of honor or respect. He’s broken the law in the past in the name of protecting himself or those he loves. Though he’s vowed to stay on the right side of the law in order to avoid any more jail time, he would never allow anyone to hurt those closest to him—especially his love, Dixon Rowe.

Now, Dixon’s no pushover either. He’s a cop. An Alaska State Trooper, to be precise, with one literal hell of an ex of his own. But, as scary as Dixon’s ex, Marcus, was, he was nowhere near as demented and scarred as Cash. Marcus was abusive while Cash is a monster in every sense of the word, even more so because of the feelings Cash harbors for Jaye.

When it comes to Cash, Dixon and Jaye both know counting on the law to keep them safe isn’t going to cut it. Jaye is vulnerable to mind-games, manipulation, and harm that spans the whole spectrum of sexual trauma to mental breakdowns. It’s harder for him to keep carrying the weight of his ties to Cash because of everything they’ve been through together, and how none of it ever seems to let him go. Jaye has trouble leading a normal life while dragging around the ghosts of Cash and his crew every minute of every day. Neither Jaye nor Dixon are really sure Dixon can save Jaye again, even as everything in Jaye is crying out for help. They know they can’t anticipate the actions of someone who lives beyond rules and respects no will more than his own.

But somehow, they have to face him, and prepare themselves for the battle of their lives.

Blurb

Arctic RestitutionAs he approaches his twenty-second birthday, the three-year anniversary of the brutal attack in an alley that nearly cost him his life in a few different ways, Jaye Larson thinks he’s left behind the ghosts from his years spent incarcerated, but when he’s delivered a mysterious letter with terrifying implications, old monsters rear their ugly heads. His normal new life in remote Zus, Alaska, with his lover, Dixon Rowe, the heart of a found-family that supports Jaye in ways he’s never before dreamed possible, is threatened by old deals and ties he begins to fear may never be broken. While old alliances strive to draw Jaye backward, Dixon and the rest of their family are called to step up to keep him steady. When the letter turns out to be just the first clue in a chain leading both Jaye and Dixon back inside the walls of the Federal Corrections Institute of Sheridan, Oregon, all of them are left facing carefully-held secrets and terrible new truths that refuse to be ignored.
