Today I am so pleased to welcome Rayna Vause to Joyfully Jay. Vause has come to talk to us about her latest release, Extrasensual Perception. She has also brought along a copy to give away. Please join me in giving Rayna a big welcome!

Tropes. We all know them, love them, and have our favorites. I’ll be the first to admit I’m a sucker for a good secret baby story. I’ve haven’t written one, yet, but I do love to read them. Throw a little royalty into the mix and you can just take my money now.

Tropes are great tools for authors to use. They’re a skeleton that they can build a story on. When someone says their book is a cinderella story, I think we all have a pretty good idea of how the story will go.  Whether it’s having an actual prince fall for someone down on their luck or a wealthy tycoon falling for a blue collar worker the storyline is comfortable and familiar for both reader and author alike.  When I sit down to write a book I fully admit I have a go to trope that I use as my core. I’m a big fan of the second chance at love story. I’m sure there is some sort of strange psychology behind that, I’ll leave that for the analysts to determine. For me, I just love the idea of two paths that once ran parallel and then diverged finding their way back together again.  So much so that I’ve used it in almost every book I’ve ever written published and unpublished alike.

In Demon of Mine, my first solo book, Zavier and Ryan are lovers separated by time and ill advised business deal made with an agent from the demon headquarters, Corporate South. They do eventually find their way back together, but staying together is a matter of life and death. In my latest release, Extrasensual Perception, my main characters, Chris and Jack, had an intense moment five years prior after ages of being attracted to each others for ages. However, circumstances prevented that moment from becoming something more. But at the start of Extrasensual Perception, events unfold that fold them back together again. I also have secondary characters in Demon of Mine who were together, then diverged and I suspect will find their way back together again.

There’s just something fascinating about digging through the old baggage from a former relationship. I enjoy throwing to characters together who have a history and seeing if the can muddle through the hurt to find compromise and understanding, rekindle desire, and ultimately reignite love. The other thing about a second chance at love story is it makes it more believable for me. It’s just a strange little quirk I have. Many romance novels happen over a short span of time, maybe a couple of days. While I’m totally onboard with that timeline in other author’s books it just feels weird in mine. I prefer to write about characters that have a history together. Ask any author though and I think we all will admit to having our own unique quirks.

Do you have tropes that you especially gravitate towards? You know, the take my money now tropes. What is it about the trope or tropes that attracts you?

Blurb

Extrasensual PerceptionIf a stalker doesn’t kill them, the heat between them might.

Christopher Vincent is desperate enough for a job that he accepts an offer to entertain as a psychic in a friend’s nightclub. Jackson Whitman, one of the club’s co-owners, is less than thrilled by the new act. To him, psychics are ridiculous and a liability. But when they come face-to-face, attraction flares to life between them.

Someone is watching Jack and Chris from the shadows. What starts as a series of creepy encounters leads to deadly attacks.

Jack and Chris must set aside their differences and work together to survive a homicidal stalker. But can they survive their explosive connection?
