  • Guest Post: The Difference Between by Blake Moreno and Leta Blake

Today I am so pleased to welcome Blake Moreno/Leta Blake to Joyfully Jay. Leta has come to talk to us about her new pen name, Blake Moreno, and Blake’s book The Difference Between. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

A Letter from Leta Blake

In January I released a book, The Difference Between, under a new pen name, Blake Moreno. For some time I had felt a bit stymied creatively by what I’d come to perceive as the Leta Blake brand. I had several books nearly finished, lingering on my hard drive, but all of them seemed to be “off brand” in some way. Or they didn’t feel like the “right” next release for Leta Blake.

After the November election results, I didn’t have the proper headspace to work on any of the romances I felt were appropriate for my next Leta Blake release. Something about the trauma of the election and the dawning horror of what was to come kept me from being able to fully embrace the lightness I needed to get into right space for a Leta Blake romance.

That dark headspace reminded me that I had an almost-finished book called The Difference Between on my hard drive. Something I’d left essentially abandoned because it was a tough story to tell. I decided to dive into it again, work through some gender wounds and associated traumas that have haunted me for years, while working through the fresh wounds of the election, too.

When I was finished, I sat with myself for a long time before deciding to release it with the new pen name Blake Moreno. I knew there was too much raw realness in the book for me to be comfortable dealing with marketing it as Leta Blake when I was still so hurt from the November outcome. I couldn’t stomach being seen so fully at that time. I needed to obscure the connection a little, to hold the book at a distance, and let it be what it is free of me.

At least until I had a chance to heal a bit more myself. I’m there now.

The Difference Between has been in Kindle Unlimited since January, but now it’s coming out, and I’m happy to say I’m taking it wide. It’s available now at:

I’ve made it sound like this book is political, and maybe in some ways it is—because the personal is always political—but it doesn’t deal with politics at all. It deals with immense, damage to the core trauma, and healing from that. What does love look like? What does devotion do? How far can we go for someone we love? How can we nurture them at their own speed, with their own unique set of needs? How does our trauma affect our relationships and our loved ones? What is romance when the world has shifted under your feet forever?

I plan to release other books under the pen name Blake Moreno in the future. In general, they will be books that I believe are somehow “off brand” for Leta Blake. For those who are willing to go on those journeys, I welcome you and thank you.

I believe The Difference Between is probably the most romantic book I’ve ever written but I also know it won’t be for everyone. If you choose to take this journey, I hope you find it healing in the end. I hope it covers your rawness with love and strength. And, again, I thank you.

Sincerely,

Leta Blake

The Difference Between“You’re the strongest person I know.”

Wade Maguire and Russ Paulson are in love. After a year of passion and happiness, they’re buying a home and moving in together. Everything is rosy for them—until a jealous and insane ex from Wade’s past puts all of that to the test.

“I need to figure out if there’s a way to move past this. For both of us.”

After being kidnapped and tortured by his deranged former lover, Wade loses his ability to engage with his own sexuality or with Russ. With the help of a psychologist, EMDR therapy, and a sex plan, they work together to overcome the damage inflicted. In the process, they discover wells of love they’ve never known before.

“You never deserved what happened to you. No matter what you’ve told yourself. You only deserved love.”

As passion is reborn and their sex life reignited, Wade realizes a need to re-experience certain events in Russ’s loving arms. For Wade, the difference between pain and pleasure is love, and the difference between rape and rough sex is consent.

Dark, and yet ultimately hopeful, this story of true love and rape recovery contains many emotional and graphic scenes of two men making love, as well as some intense scenes of torture. Proceed with care.

The Difference Between is a 78,000 word steamy, graphic, intensely emotional novel with a strong happy ending. No cheating and no cliffhangers, just two men who fight for their love. STAND-ALONE
