Walking Around Inside of a Book

When it came to writing the Unbreakable Bonds series and now the Ward Security series, we knew that we would have different hurdles to take on — what kind of a mystery would it be, how far are we willing to bend the rules, or even do we allow them to exchange “I love yous”.

But with the location, we decided to go a little easy. We chose my hometown! Cincinnati, Ohio and the surrounding tristate area were my stomping ground for a few decades before I moved south. I went to school there, dated there, attended events, and went for lazy Sunday afternoon drives on those wonderful winding roads. (I miss those lovely winding roads.)

While I might not live there now, I head back at least once per year to visit with family and scout out new, interesting locations to appear in the book.

For each of the Unbreakable Bonds books and the Ward Security books, I try to find an interesting spot that hasn’t been seen in any of the other books. I try to find something off the beaten path that might be known only to the locals.

Just prior to working on Psycho Romeo for the Ward Security series, I was back in Cincinnati to see family. Several people had raved to me about a new park that had opened in the past couple years that I needed to check out.

So I grabbed the camera and the husband.

It was perfect.

Smale Riverfront Park is a new addition to the city and runs along the Ohio River on the Ohio side, replacing what had been a bunch of parking lots. It is nestled between the Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium, running past the Roebling Suspension Bridge. You really can’t cram in more notable Cincinnati locations in one place if you tried.

It’s a beautiful green area that gives you the wonderful accessibility of being downtown, but you’re removed from the noise, the rush of traffic, and the overwhelming feeling of being in the middle of it all. It’s peace and quiet for a nice afternoon stroll.

It also has these great play areas for kids – slides, a life-sized chess set, the world’s largest foot chime organ, and…of course… a flying pig. If you’ve never been to Cincinnati, the city is very serious about its pigs, particularly its flying pigs.

And this one you can climb in and make its wings flap.

When I was walking around this park, snapping pictures, and generally enjoying being back in my hometown, I could so easily see Sven and Geoffrey from Psycho Romeo strolling along here, taking a break from whatever chaos Rinda and I have brought into their lives.

I like being able to use places that I’ve walked through because I can really get the feel of the location down. We can write it so that readers feel like they are right there with the characters with the gravel crunching under foot, the sound of the leaves rustling in the trees, the smell of the waffles wafting on the air from the nearby waffle restaurant.

Cincinnati was my home for many years and we’ve worked hard to make it home for these characters that we love. They knows the ins and outs of the city. They know her heartbeat and her dirty secrets. And we can’t wait to share it all with you.

We hope you enjoy Psycho Romeo and this little glimpse into where we’ve placed Sven and Geoffrey.

Blurb

Psycho Romeo CoverGeoffrey Ralse is known for being the life of the party. He loves the club scene, hanging with his friends, and flirting with whomever catches his eye. He certainly isn’t going to stop living his life just because some would-be stalker starts sending him threats.

But it all changes when Geoffrey is drugged and wakes up half naked in his own home with a new message from his stalker.
He needs help and there’s only one person he trusts…

Protective Agent Sven Larsen has been fighting Geoffrey’s flirtatious advances for months, even though he’s impossibly drawn to the man. There’s no way he can be around him twenty-four/seven and not finally crack. But one look at Geoffrey’s haunted eyes, and he knows there’s no way he’s letting Geoffrey walk out of Ward Security without him.

Even if it means breaking his own rules, he will keep Geoffrey.

Bio

author picRinda Elliott

Rinda loves unusual stories and credits growing up in a family of curious life-lovers who moved all over the country. Books and movies full of fantasy, science fiction and romance kept them amused, especially in some of the stranger places.

For years, she tried to separate her darker side with her humorous and romantic one. She published short fiction, but things really started happening when she gave in and mixed it up. When not lost in fiction, she loves making wine, collecting music, gaming and spending time with her husband and two children.

She is the author of the Beri O’Dell urban fantasy series, the YA Sister of Fate Trilogy with Harlequin Teen, and the paranormal romance Brothers Bernaux Trilogy. She also writes erotic fiction as Dani Worth.

She can be found at RindaElliott.com and her Dani Worth blog . She’s represented by Miriam Kriss at the Irene Goodman Agency.

Jocelynn Drake

Love comes in many varied forms. There is the love of family, love of country, and love of chocolate. But for Jocelynn Drake, one truly treasured love is the love of a good story. This former Kentucky girl spends the majority of her time lost in the strong embrace of a good book.

When she’s not hammering away at her keyboard, frowning at her monitor, or curled up with a book, she can usually be found cuddling with her cat Demona, walking her dog Max, or flinging curses at the TV while playing a video game. Outside of books, cats, and video games, she is completely enamored of Bruce Wayne, Ezio Auditore, travel, tattoos, explosions, fast cars, and Anthony Bourdain (but only when he’s feeling really cranky).

She is the author of the urban fantasy series: The Dark Days series and the Asylum Tales. She also occasionally writes as Joy Douglass when she’s in the mood for a little historical romance. She can be found at JocelynnDrake.com.
