Length: Novella
Dane McCormick has found the one. He has known that Dr. Carter Baldridge was the one almost from the moment he saw him, even despite the severe stomach virus he was suffering from at the time they met. Dane’s personal life has taken a back seat to his professional life for some time now as his job keeps him constantly on the road. He likes his job and works for his best friend, but Dane could use a little time in one place. When Dane arrives in South Carolina, he’s supposed to be there for at least a year, certainly enough time to explore things with the handsome doctor with the incredible bedside manner.
Carter has a successful urgent care practice and caring for others comes naturally to him. When he first laid eyes on Dane, even Dane’s illness couldn’t quiet the attraction he felt for the man. Carter knows he’s not cut out for a long-distance relationship, as that has not worked out for him at all in the past, but Carter also knows there is more to their relationship than just chemistry. The men have only been together for four months, but their relationship is what they both have always wanted, except life may have other plans.
This is a sweet, easy, relationship-focused book with two guys just looking for the one. Based on where I was led to from the blurb, it did take me a little time to settle into this story. The blurb reads as if the story will start when the men meet for the first time. But the book opens with Carter and Dane having been together for four months, then they are separated, and then it flashes back to their meeting and first dates. It then worked fine, once I got a better feel for the story.
The book is almost solely relationship focused. The men have great chemistry and Cade pulls that off well in a fewer amount of words and we are able to feel their connection in a short time. Dane is always traveling and Carter has been burned in relationships before, so they both have their reasons for being unattached. But as they spend time together, they both realize they do not want to settle anymore.
The book is a little back and forth between present day and the time they met and finding a way to work out their relationship is the focal point. I liked both guys, but given the page constraints here we don’t learn that much about either of them. Carter and Dane’s backstory is introduced only for there to be no further follow-up to it and I wondered why was it briefly brought up to then not be explored any further. I enjoy reading novellas, but with all books the pace and the depth has to be there. The guys here had great chemistry and made for a great couple. I would have also liked to see parts of their story elaborated on to further pull it all together.
I would suggest Someone to Kiss for an overall well written, sweet story that packs some emotion set around the holidays where dreams have a way of coming true.
