Thank you, Jay, for inviting me to your blog to share my latest novel, To Have and To Hold as well as some of my thoughts on writing.

Sitting down to write Enchanting Encounters, I didn’t want the question to be what will happen but rather how will it happen. I knew the starting point and the ending point, and the joy of writing this series has been discovering how Aidan and Kyle arrive there.

I took some writing classes in college, and one of the consistent pieces of advice I was given was to make sure every scene served a purpose. It was especially relevant in short stories where space was limited, but it applies to novels as well. Sometimes, that purpose is moving the plot forward. Sometimes, it’s as seemingly insignificant as learning a small detail about a character.

In this series, I applied that advice to sex scenes. Writing erotica meant my characters would be having sex. Quite a lot, as it turns out. In order to keep the scenes from becoming repetitive or boring, I made sure each one had a purpose.

There were scenes where I knew the purpose first. I wanted to show the developing trust between the two characters so I put one character in a vulnerable position. Another time, I wanted to show the fun side of the characters so I wrote a scene where Kyle was a bit of a brat then let the characters play off of each other.

There were also scenes where I knew the sex first. I knew a position or a kink, something I wanted the characters to explore and the purpose came second. I knew To Have and To Hold would have the first time they had sex without condoms, but it wasn’t until I drafted that scene that I realized what an intimate moment it would be between them. There was another scene I had an outline of—light humiliation, a bit of roleplay—and as the scene developed, it revealed a depth of trust between Aidan and Kyle that I hadn’t necessarily intended at the conception of the scene.

I’m positive that when my writing professors lectured on the importance of literary devices, they didn’t intend for me to apply that knowledge to erotica, and every time I use something they taught me, I can’t help but grin.

Have purpose. Have fun. Those are my two guiding principles when writing.

ToSHaveandToHoldFollowing the success of Project: Notice Me, Kyle and Aidan are now in a three-month extension of their play. If three months wasn’t so short, then it would be everything Kyle wants.

They’ve been together long enough to meet each other’s friends and to try new things. Kyle only hopes that at the end of the three months, he isn’t the only one who wants more.

Bio

Tamryn studied English and Creative Writing in school but has been writing since she could first hold a pencil. Recently, she’s turned her focus towards writing erotica. She enjoys writing stories where sex comes first, then feelings, because doing things out of order can be fun.

Tamryn has spent the past few months writing the Daniel and Ryan series with a lovely view of mountains out her window, and she’s now searching for a new mountain range to serve as her backdrop as she begins her next project.
