Today I am so pleased to welcome D.J. Jamison to Joyfully Jay. D.J. has come to talk to us about her latest release, Hearts & Health, Volume 2. She has also brought along and exclusive excerpt and a great giveaway. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Hearts and Health: The series continues

Today, I’m here to celebrate the release of a Hearts and Health box set of Books 4-6, but the series of M/M romances focused on doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel in small-town Kansas won’t stop there.

When I finished Book 6, Orderly Affair, I thought I was done with my Hearts and Health journey. I should have known better than to announce that, because of course I now have to apologize for being a big liar! While working on other projects, I was hit with a plot bunny that was perfect for two characters in earlier books, and I couldn’t resist.

I’m hoping to release two more Hearts and Health books before the end of the year, so it’s a good time to catch up on the series. A box set of the first three books is also available on Amazon, if you haven’t yet explored the series.

My next Hearts and Health romance will feature Ridley, an X-ray tech who has a secondary role in earlier books, and Cole, a hairdresser who makes a brief appearance in Orderly Affair. This book is going to be a lot fluffier than some of the earlier books, with a focus on a sweet, developing romance between two cute characters who both need a little love. It’s a nice break from some heavier mystery-themed writing I’m doing.

Book 8 will also include a character who was introduced in Orderly Affair. Sean, Ian’s younger brother, will get his own story. His love interest will be introduced in Book 7, so you don’t know him yet, but it’s a firefighter/paramedic pairing, so expect some sizzle!

The moral of the story, I suppose, is don’t listen to me if I say I’m done with a series. I might come back at any time with more books!

Just for fun, tell me: What’s one complete M/M Romance series that you’d love to see continue?

Excerpt

I’ve brought an excerpt that includes a glimpse of Cole, who will be in my next book in the series. Enjoy!

Eileen’s fingers carded through his hair. “Your hair is a shaggy mess. We can’t have that. How will you meet a woman to make you forget all about your ex?”

“He looks pretty good to me,” a voice said behind him. Ian looked up to see another hairstylist smiling at him in the mirror: a slim guy with platinum blond hair and a mischievous expression.

Eileen scowled. “Cole, with your track record with men, that’s not saying much.”

Cole gasped. “Bitch, it’s not my fault all the wrong men find me irresistible.” He placed a hand on Ian’s shoulder and leaned in to speak near his ear. “Maybe you’re the guy to change my luck.”

“Get out of here,” Eileen said, swatting Cole’s ass. “Stop hitting on my straight brother.”

Cole laughed and danced away, pausing to gossip with another stylist on his way to his station. Eileen had unknowingly given Ian the perfect opening. Heart in his throat, he drew a deep breath for courage as Eileen spritzed his hair with water.

“Actually, I’ve met someone.”

She paused the spritzing to look up at his reflection. “Yeah? That’s great.”

“I’m not sure Ma will approve.”

Eileen snorted. “Welcome to my world. I have three overbearing brothers. No one ever approves of my boyfriends.”

“Yeah, well, you have terrible taste in men.”

She gave him a flat look, and he coughed. “Right, but that’s not the point. Also, this is different.”

“Different why? Because you have great taste in women? Michelle was never the right choice for you.”

Eileen picked up the scissors and began sifting his hair between her fingers and snipping. “You need someone sweet. Someone nice, who accepts you for you.”

Could he really tell her? His feelings for Callum stretched the confines of his skin. And his secret, the one he was so damned determined to keep, had gotten louder in his head until he realized he had to tell someone. He was afraid to come out, but he wanted to tell Eileen about Callum.

About the person he loved — even if that person was a man.

“I think I’ve found someone like that, but this is different because …”

“Because what?” she asked without looking up from her task. He appreciated her focus, but he didn’t want to shock her while she was cutting his hair. It seemed like a bad hairstyle would be the best outcome he could hope for in that scenario.

“Put down the scissors for a second. I don’t want to be stabbed by accident.”

Eileen lowered the scissors with a frown. “I’m not gonna stab you—”

“I’m dating a man.”

Room For Recovery – Book #4

When Beau James is cornered by two bullies, he’s rescued by none other than the broody Wade Ritter, who he’s crushed on from afar. Despite their family connection, Wade has resisted all of Beau’s attempts at friendship — until now. His protective streak gives Beau an opportunity to get past Wade’s prickly exterior. But Wade is carrying a heavy burden that makes it tough to open up. With Beau’s help, he realizes there’s room for recovery. If he can face hard truths about his sexuality and love himself, he might be able to love Beau too.

Surprise Delivery – Book #5

Dr. Casper Rollins knows how to have fun. The love of his life, Kage Myers, lived every moment to the fullest before he died. Now, Casper goes on adrenaline-soaked adventures when he wants to feel closer to his lost love. Dr. Eric Holtz is married to his work, so much so his last partner left him. When his niece arrives, pregnant and in need of an ally, he has family again. Then her obstetrician suggests breaking Eric of his workaholic tendencies, and a fun and sexy fling ensues. But it’s not long before feelings are in the mix. If these two want a future, they’ll have to embrace the lesson Kage taught Casper long ago: You only live once.

Orderly Affair – Book #6

When Ian Connolly installs a hookup app to explore his long-suppressed attraction to men, he doesn’t expect to connect with anyone he knows, especially not lab tech Callum Price. But from their first scorching encounter, he’s hooked. Callum hasn’t had the best luck with love, and he’s suffocating under a pile of responsibilities. But when he sees an opportunity to blow off steam with Ian, he takes it. If Ian can be honest with his family about loving a man, maybe Callum can admit his own truth: He wants a man he can count on, a man just like Ian.

Bio

DJ Jamison is the author of more than a dozen m/m romances, including the Ashe Sentinel series and the Hearts and Health series. She writes a variety of queer characters, from gay to bisexual to asexual, with a focus on telling love stories that are more about common ground than lust at first sight. DJ grew up in the Midwest in a working-class family, and those influences can be found in her writing through characters coping with real-life problems: money troubles, workplace drama, family conflicts and, of course, falling in love. DJ spent more than a decade in the newspaper industry before chasing her first dream to write fiction. She spent a lifetime reading before that, and continues to avidly devour her fellow authors’ books each night. She lives in Kansas with her husband, two sons, two fish and, regrettably, one snake.
