Today I am so pleased to welcome JD Chambers to Joyfully Jay. JD has come to talk to us about her latest release, Only Love You. She has also brought along a great giveaway. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Thank you Jay, for having me, and hello fellow readers! I’m here to celebrate the release of Only Love You, Only Colorado Book Five.

The very first reader to ever lay eyes on Only with You, the first book in the Only Colorado series, immediately hit me with, “Is Ben getting a book?” It is still, four books later, the question I most frequently receive. Granted, I promised him the fourth book in the series and gave it to someone else, so I haven’t always been fair to poor Ben Harrison.

I have, however, gifted him with one of my favorite characters of all time, Jonathan Olson. Jonathan is a deaf man who matches Ben in inappropriateness, humor, horniness, and most importantly – for me anyway – in love of musicals. The additional of musicals, songs, and lyrics was so much fun for me as an author and a musical lover myself.

Only Love You, Ben and Jonathan’s story also allowed me to have fun because it uses one of my favorite tropes – the fake boyfriend. Over the course of the series, poor Ben has gone from Mr. Happy-Go-Lucky to a bit of a moody boy, and in Only Love You, we finally find out why. His sister is engaged to his ex-boyfriend from high school. Jonathan joins him at the wedding as his pretend boyfriend, and hijinks naturally ensue.

Only Love You is a fun little read, that can stand alone if you haven’t read the other books in the series. I hope you enjoy this glimpse of Jonathan’s first evening with Ben’s parents. Thanks for reading!

Excerpt

“My dad’s chili,” Ben signs when he notices me sniffing the air.

Jonathan: They must be trying to keep us from getting it on under their roof.

I pull out my phone and text while we’re still in private. But instead of texting back, he touches my shoulder and signs “Why?” when I look his way. I’m so proud at how well he’s picking up sign, but there are still things to say that I don’t think he’d get just yet. Or it would take too long, and my stomach is not going to hold out. I can feel it grumbling already.

“Words no top wants to hear when trying to get laid,” I whisper, hoping that we are truly alone up here. “I had chili with beans.”

Ben is still laughing when we return downstairs and head into the kitchen. His mom hands us bowls and we serve ourselves straight from the pot on the stove. Fixings are on the table, including sour cream, green onion, Fritos, and a plate full of cornbread. My eyes must bulge out of my head, because Ben gives me a nod and I eagerly nod back. Yes, this looks and smells delicious.

While I prepare my chili, there’s a conversation that I can’t hear going on around me. I catch a few random words, but not enough to comprehend. Instead, it’s because of the glances between us from his mother, and the knowing smirk of his father, that I surmise Ben is telling them about us. Ben’s hand sneaks to the side and covers mine, and the warmth of his skin seeps into mine. Yep, definitely telling them about us.

I can only hope that Ben isn’t being too fanciful or embarrassing in whatever stories he decides to come up with regarding our “relationship.” Given the puppy dog eyes his mom keeps giving me, I’m pretty sure he’s being too romantic. Even I know enough to know Ben and romance don’t go together, although his soft, fond smile and gooey doe eyes almost have me convinced.

I can’t believe he needed me here to protect him from – what? Too much love and chili? I’ve got to be missing something. Maybe I really will understand once I meet his sister.

After some back and forth between the family, Ben turns to me and signs, “Mom asked where you are from?”

“Louisiana,” I fingerspell for him.

He looks surprised, even as he repeats the word for his family.

“I know, right?” I sign in response to his expression. “I have no accent.”

Blurb

“It has recently come to my attention that I have turned into something of an oblivious asshole. In my defense, I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Ben Harrison is not having the best year. It starts out with his sister announcing her engagement to his ex-boyfriend. The revolving door of roommates leaving as they find their happily ever afters doesn’t help. Neither does his knack for making bad decisions.

“I’m going right back to school come fall. I don’t plan on stopping until people are forced to call me Dr. Olson.”

Jonathan Olson is too busy for a relationship. As a deaf graduate school student, he works nonstop to fulfill his dream of being a scientist for the Forest Service. He certainly doesn’t have time to deal with an asshole who treats him like he doesn’t exist.

When a friend suggests that Jonathan pose as Ben’s boyfriend for his sister’s wedding, they both have their reasons for agreeing. But what starts out as a game of pretend between frenemies quickly turns into something meaningful, no matter how hard they try to fight it. But even fake boyfriends can be a challenge for two men who are convinced that they aren’t relationship material.

Bio

JD Chambers wanted at various times to be Indiana Jones, Pat Benatar, and Wonder Woman when she grew up. She never considered writing down the stories she crafted in her head. They provided nothing more than entertainment for long drives or sleepless nights, until one particular story insisted it didn’t want to reside only in her noggin.  She hasn’t stopped writing since.

JD finds unlikely heroes, humans courageous enough to be themselves, and spreadsheets incredibly sexy — the last one much to her husband’s chagrin.  Together, they raise three teenagers and the world’s most mellow Chihuahua on the Oregon Coast.
